Audio production career - need input

So #4 daughter has decided that she wants to go into audio engineering/sound production. I am not sure why; she’s not a musician nor much of a techie. I suspect it’s because hanging around a recording studio all day looks cool.

I’ve done audio for for a long time, but only on a small scale - assembling and mastering video sound tracks, doing a cleaned-up CD release of concert performances, that sort of thing. Never sat at a big board except briefly and as an adjunct. So I understand the process and scope of things, at least a bit.

So… ignoring all the motivation and experience issues, how would a 21yo in her earliest college days get into sound production on a career level? What college major and minor? What trade-level training? What experience should she look for on an entry or intern level?
