Most Republicans in 2015 - the overwhelming majority of Republicans in fact - didn’t want him to be president. There was the “deep bench”, remember? Most Republicans back then wanted anyone but Trump. But guess what? The others lost. The strength of Trump’s plurality was enough to overwhelm, overrun everyone else in the field. The example of the Third Reich aside, that example alone should be enough to educate you about the power of an extreme, but unified, enthusiastic plurality. What, in your view, has changed? Trump emerged from a relatively fringe candidate to Republican nominee, to President of the United States. What are you not getting about this Godot? Do you not yet fucking understand that all of your normal, all of your assumptions about politics are just completely and utterly invalid now? Consider the fact that a congress is in republican hands despite the fact that more voters in the nation voted for democrats. Consider that in 2 of the last 4 presidential elections, the political minority defeated the majority vote - and by the end of this year will have 4 out of 9 supreme court justices to show for it.
That is not democracy; that is creeping authoritarianism. I’m only scratching the surface here. I’m not even talking about how the supreme court “majority” allows billionaires like the Koch Brothers to use their unlimited money as “speech” to influence political races.
They have leveraged their advantage in state and local races to block votes, remove voters from the polls, institute onerous voter ID requirements, and essentially move polling stations so far away from democratic-leaning districts so as to discourage participation.
Trust me: the evidence supports my arguments. America is barely a democracy, and almost as easily identified as an authoritarian state…if people are willing to be objective in their analysis. Though I must confess, this is probably a difficult exercise considering this country has spent anywhere from $1-5 TRILLION dollars “liberating” other countries and bailing out businesses engaging in essentially fraudulent “free market” business practices. Sometimes, it’s probably just easier and safe to believe the lie.
In short, I want you fucking people to understand the truth: America the democracy is dying. It’s leaving you. It needs CPR. Are you going to give it, or are you just going to believe that it’s just tired and needs some rest like every other patient?
