In fairness, I suppose I ought to come up with something sympathetic to say to a thirtysomething who’s stuck in the parental nest. Alas, the best I can come up with is, “It’s not so bad, Jason – even if you lived alone in the Taj Mahal I’ll bet you still wouldn’t be getting any.”

It’s very sad that the American dream is dying. For half a century after the Great Depression, Americans grew up expecting to be more prosperous than their parents, and were generally not disappointed. In recent decades this trend has reversed; 20-somethings and 30-somethings now expect to be poorer than their parents, and the fear is well-founded. America’s economy is booming but the wealth is sucked off by the kleptocrats. Even on this board I sometimes see animosity against the greedy Boomers who robbed their kids and grandkids of their birthright; too bad kids haven’t mastered Google well enough to grok the real problems.
Yet I can only laugh to hear that a 34-year old Nazi leader is living with his parents, without even a pro-Nazi Dad to help nurture his hatreds. One shouldn’t laugh at the crippled, but is it OK to laugh at a Nazi cripple? Is Kessler an “incel” also?
If Millennials would go to the polls and vote their pocketbooks the Kelptocrats could be turned back easily. Instead, most Millennials don’t vote at all, and a large fraction of those who do vote … support Trump.

Update! James Fields’ trial begins!
It’s been a busy couple of days but the trial is getting underway for James Fields - the White Shithead who drove into a crowd and killed Heather Heyer.
The prosecutor told the jury that before the Charlottesville rally, Fields had posted photos of cars plowing into protestors. The prosecution is saying that Fields came to the rally with the intent to act out the photo.
OTOH, the defense is saying that the rally had descended into pitched battles and Fields believed he’d heard gunfire. They say that he drove straight into a crowd of dozens of people because it was scary.
As I recall, Fields had first driven away, and then turned and drove back to the crowd. The defence, as the Beeb calls it, is going to have to do some mighty fast footwork, I think.

I gotta say - I’m not usually one for the death penalty (it’s problematic in theory and barbaric in practice), but seeing this guy executed would send an excellent signal to all the neo-nazi fucks who might want to turn their disgusting, genocidal beliefs into actions.
Yes and no. I do get that primal desire for vengeance and this is one of those cases where it does kick in. However, the idea of creating martyrs for the neo-nazis to rally around worries me even more.
They’re going to be equally vile and equally dangerous whether they have martyrs or not. In any case, if he spends his life in prison, he’ll continue to be part of the movement, communicate with them, and possibly influence others. I truly don’t give a fuck, I would be fine with executing this guy and any other terrorists.
Will he? Because it seems the majority want to distance themselves from him, since he made them look bad. And his access to the outside world will be limited–it’s not like he’ll be there on his computer all day or something, like he probably was before.
That said, I don’t think he’d become a martyr for the same reason. And I do think the the deterrent effect is a real thing this time, since this was entirely premeditated and something he could have chosen not to do.
I’m just not sure if execution has more of a deterrent effect. And there is also the possibility that forced contact with non-whites will change his tune (as has happened to a very few other Nazis) and then he becomes a great story for our side. If even he can see how stupid he was, then Nazis must be pretty stupid.
So I say to keep him alive. Worry about him doing other things if he does other things.
If the death penalty is wrong, as in my opinion it is, it is always wrong. It is in precisely these kinds of cases that we need to be most vigilant about our principles. Otherwise, instead of principles we just have convenient beliefs.
I will be glad if this person has the rest of his life in prison to reflect on his own principles. Perhaps he will have a moral conversion. Perhaps he will apologize. Then he can spend the rest of his life, still in prison, feeling bad about himself.
I don’t support execution, but the guy is a nazi so daily punchings are in order.
