Well, that’s swell, now I know when to take a weekend off to the coast. And yeah, you just know that Antifa will not be able to resist showing up. They just can’t.
OTOH a mass Soul Food fest on the other side of the WH on the Ellipse… hmmmm…
I suppose that being generous one could see an allegation made, that under the US speech-rights environment, which in the author’s opinion is the rightfully superior one, there should have been no complaint and no court date to start with.
But just so, that there’s no real free speech is just one of the common tropes among the US chattersphere about many other Western countries (along with that you’ll die waiting a year for a medical procedure under socialized medicine and that criminals can just run rampant stabbing people right and left since you don’t have guns). I DO believe we have greater free speech protections and I like it like that, but it’s not like we are the Only Free Ones or like it’s absolute even here.
Yeah, if this was really all about promoting the civil rights of white women, you think you would have actually seen some at the last protest. But from the photographsthey appear to be around 98% male.
This is a fair comment. I would just say that the passage in your comment that I’ve bolded is exactly the basis that the Supreme Court of Canada has upheld the hate propaganda offence (which is different from the incitement to genocide offence, which has a violence component).
The leading case on point is R. v. Keegstra, [1990] 3 S.C.R. 697. Speaking for the majority, the Chief Justice has justified the provision in exactly the terms you suggest. You likely don’t agree, but the debate on this point is on that approach, not an incitement to violence.
So this “rally” is now just a few days away, if indeed it is going to happen. I’ve been watching for any news of it other than on a right-wing site or something, but I see little or nothing about it so far.
Might be a bit over the top, IMO, since AFAIK there are no plans for any white supremacists to go to Charlottesville, but I think most of us would rather see them err on the side of caution and people not being dead, right?
And they are trying to make sure Fox and some of the right stay on their side.
They do want to avoid violence but will have some pretty violent people in reserves.
It may escalate, but they are trying to keep their heads down due to legal problems and their need to attract ‘normies’ and ‘soft-right’ types to their cause.
Be safe if you go to DC, hopefully they keep being really bad at ops-sec and their bigotry can continue to be exposed.
To clarify “Jason Kessler” is the pseudonym for the permit holder in DC.
I don’t know if you have the same ‘black bloc’ problem on your side but do try to self-police. Typically it is the ‘black bloc’ folks that cause problems on the West coast even if it is pinned on the antifa groups. I am not antifa but I know that most of them over here try to vet for that problem not that it helps when the Proud Boys win in the media due to the actions of the black bloc.
Metro does deny the claim that it was considering a rally-specific train.
But to make things even sweeter, beginning Saturday and for 2 weeks, 3 of the 4 Metro lines from NoVA to the DC core will be having major construction, one not crossing the river at all, two running at like 1/4 capacity, and a number of stations closed or being skipped by the lines on weekends — Metro is actually posting that people along those lines should AVOID using the trains unless they have no choice.
Much as I’d love to see these fuckers jammed into a single Metro car with broken air-conditioning, the odds that any of these good ol’ boys would descend from their coal-rolling truck-nutted F150s to ride the socialist subway with “them” is about the same as me winning the lottery without a ticket.
And one that we’re all probably aware of in this day and age: copyright, which imposed civil and criminal liability for speech that substantially copies other speech
While it can stand some reform in the opinion of many, the vast majority support this restriction. See also patents and trademarks.
It’s already 10:40am in Washington DC and I can’t find a single story online about this supposed rally. In fact, I couldn’t find any new stories yesterday either; the last anyone wrote about it was Thursday, apparently.
That’s a pseudonym? I did not know that; I thought it was his real name.
