I’m sitting here thinking that I got nothing done today and I haven’t got time for this. And how I just don’t know how I’m going to feel walking in there tomorrow or what the hell I’m going to say to my students. I don’t think it’s sunk in yet.
I’m not aware of anyone else here in the Ming Wing either. Thanks for your concern, it’s much appreciated.
I’m at Melbourne University and we found out about it this morning. I spent a frantic 10 minutes or so ringing people at Monash - especially since my cousin would have been in that building just an hour later. A friend of a friend was in a tutorial just a couple of doors down and they had locked the doors and were holed up in their room.
They’ve got the guy in custody - I don’t think they know why he did it yet.
{{hawthorne}} for today and tomorrow, and whenever else you need it.
Me and nefertari go to Monash, and were in nearby building when all this happened yesterday. We’re both fine - thankfully, due to the actions of a couple of the academic staff, the entire incident was confined to one room and (from what I gather) probably less than a minute or so in time. Of course, no one in the rest of the campus knew that at the time, so there was a sort of bemused confusion for an hour or so after it happened, as people tried to work out what exactly was going on.
Today, there’s certainly a weird mood about. Superficially, almost everything’s back to ‘business as usual’, but when something like this happens in such physically and psychologically familiar territory, it’s hard to get right back into your daily routine.
