Aussies: William Tyrell...why the shroud of secrecy about parents?

A little bloke called William went missing a year ago from a small rural town, just vanishing from his grandparent’s front garden.

William Tyrell

In the time since his disappearance, despite MANY public appeals for information and assistance to find him, his parents have not been seen nor identified by name ‘for legal reasons’. A Sixty Minutes slot last week interviewed the parents, on the proviso that their faces be blacked out and any other identifying information be removed before going to air. :dubious:

I don’t get it! What possible reasons could there be for withholding information about the parents? The only thing I could come up with was that they were part of a witness protection program…but that sounded far-fetched even to me!!

What’s your take folks?

My first guess is some involvement in either the family courts or the foster system. There are quite strict laws about what the media can report in either case, for privacy reasons.

If my understanding is correct, he was in the care of his foster mother when he disappeared. They were visiting the house of the foster mother’s mother. The sister referred to is his biological sister. Police have apparently investigated the biofamily and are satisfied they had nothing to do with the disappearance. I can’t provide sources for any of this so if MSM reports otherwise then I was probably misinformed.

So are you saying the parents who have been interviewed are the foster parents and not the bio ones?

I presumed a foster kid thing as well. I have no knowledge about this specific case, but I have friends who have two ‘permanent’ foster kids and there are quite serious restrictions on any ‘public’ sharing of information or even just normal type family photos, which includes social media, even otherwise ‘private’ facebook accounts, etc.

That’s my understanding, but official information is so vague that it might turn out to be wrong.
