Is there any way to change the amount of time of inactivity it takes to log out a user? I ask because it seems like on certain longer threads (particularly those with long posts) take me a while to read and by the time I get done reading it, I’ve been logged out. This is only a problem due to my reliance on the “go to most recent post” which is then disabled as it starts over my log-in at the point I was logged out.
I find myself too often reading long threads having to hit reload every couple of minutes to ensure that I don’t get logged out involuntarily.
See, that’s the problem - I have mine set to log me in automatically, so I didn’t think it would be an issue with me. That’s why I asked because it seems like I’m set up to do everything the right way.
Tuba, I’ve had this problem for years. It’s followed me around regardless of what computer I use, cookie status variable. If I stay logged in, don’t go anywhere, don’t do something to make the server pay attention to me, the server drops me fairly quickly, and then when I click to look at something, voila, I’ve been logged back in and now I’m shown as having previously logged in at the time I originally asked my browser to come to the forum.
It’s a mildly annoying problem; you end up having to hunt for where you left off looking at things the night before. Which assumes you remember such things.
Hmm. Here it’s fifteen minutes before the cookie “times out.”
Let me try doubling that and see if it helps. (Though if this has a negative impact on performance, then I’ll have to change it back, but I think 15 minutes is the default.)
