Just FYI - there is an ad auto-playing this morning on every forum and the main forum. It is for something like “Fashion Watch” and it’s super annoying. I’m going to stay off the boards for awhile until it goes away. I am on an iPad, so no need to say anything about adBlock.
If I hear “Hi my name is Valerie” in whatever Euro accent she has one more time, I’m going to murder people.

Yahoo News and Huffington Post do this now.[/li][li]Auto-ads are back to doing it because they have to compete with limited attention spans caused by social media, and younger generations brainwashed into self-entitlement.[/li][/ul]
That said, you still have choices:

[li]Become a member.[/li][li]Use a decent web browser with ad block software, and/or a Flash disabling addon.[/li][li]Turn off the volume.[/li][/ul]
I’ve been a member here for a long time, and I’m only responding to Mods’ requests that we report audio ads. Also, as I pointed out above, I am on a iPad, which has limited ad blocking options, and doesn’t support Flash.
You know, they say that what you do on the first of the year is what you’ll be all year long. So, looks like you’re in for a year of being rude and not reading properly. Have fun with that.

Just heard back from the guy that supervises the ad department; he is working with the advertising vendor to remove all auto play sound advertising from the roster. He has told his staff not to book advertising with auto play sound on The Straight Dope site. We hope this will be the end of the matter; please let us know if you see/hear anything like this again.
