In every case, this takes me to Uber’s website. I assume this is ad, and as you can imagine, it makes using this message board all but impossible.

My stats: latest version of iOS on an iPhone 6. I’m logged in, although since I’m no longer a paid member, I understand that offers no protection from ads.

As a follow-up, I should point out this effects every page that loads for me. I have to be quick on the “stop” button to prevent ads from loading. I would have fixed the typo in my title, but hitting preview would have just taken me to Uber again!

Happened to me (once) just a short while ago as well. Had to close Safari and reopen. Wasn’t logged in. First time I’ve ever been unceremoniously dumped to a complete new page with no trace of where I came from.

Yup, ditto on the OP. It’s Uber, words with friends or some marvel game. It’s incredibly annoying.

I am not involved at all with the ads here. That said, it seems to me that any ads we display shouldn’t completely hijack you away from the SDMB, though. Is that what is happening here?

That’s what happened to me. Instead of an ad page popping up over the SD webpage, it replaced the SD webpage. I tried going back but nothing happened. Had to close Safari and come back in via my bookmark. That had never happened before.

Yes, that’s what’s happening. It seems to have stopped now, although maybe I’m just not seeing the same guilty ad. When it was affecting me, I would see the page load, and when the ad loaded, it would automatically navigate me away to a white, blank-looking referral page, and then to Uber’s website.

I’m having a similar problem. The difference that makes it particularly problematic is that this is not only a redirect, but it also opens up the iOS App Store, shoving Safari to the background. The app I’m being redirected to is almost always Draft Kings, though there may have been one or two others. It doesn’t happen on every page I open, but often enough to be very annoying.

iPhone 6, latest version of iOS. Much like OP, I don’t expect to be protected from ads, but forceful redirection is not good advertising.

I’ve had this issue too in the past, but very intermittently.

I have also had this happen on the iPhone, every so often a page on the SDMB will redirect me to the App store.

Yes, it takes me away from the SDMB. In Uber’s case it just brings up their ad, other ads bring up the App Store on my phone and redirects the website.

I have forwarded this info up the chain of command. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Ok this is basically happening every single time I load a thread now which is making the board basically unreadable. And it’s not anything I am doing, it happens on both the iPad and iPhone. It just now kept redirecting me to http://wadogo.go2cloud.org and opening the App Store.

Ads are now redirecting me to various URLs, which are “hooks” that launch the App Store to Draft Kings or Big Fish Casino. It’s no less annoying now than it was a few days ago.

After I submitted that post, an ad loaded another URL, which then redirected me to another App Store hook, which launched the App Store app on my phone, taking me to Pandora.

Happening to me too, nearly every time I try to open Cafe Society or IMHO on my iPhone (5c), I’m getting dragged out of Safari, my App store is opening, and I have to close and re-start Safari to keep the hijack from repeating - I can’t hit the back button fast enough to get past the three or four pages of hijack shit to get back to the Dope.

Thankfully not happening on the iPad mini, or I’d be really upset.

Still, REALLY annoying.

I haven’t heard anything and didn’t receive any response to my e-mail. Since I’m not involved in the ads here I don’t know if they would bother to tell me if they change anything.

If I hear anything I will let you know. I assume that mobile users are still experiencing this problem?

Yep- it just happened to me. I came here to check to see if there was any hope of a resolution
