Is there really any significance to the combination of letters and numbers (e.g., SX-320) used to specify models of automobiles and other products, or have psychologists determined that they communicate some kind of sexy salability?
Their is no standardized system. So, I suppose some numbers might be chosen for a racy feel, but others mean something within a particular manufacturer’s line. BMW has its compact, mid-level and high end lines, respectively the 3, 5 and 7 series. They give most of their models a three digit designation which is a structured number with the first digit indicating series and the second two indicating the engine, so a 325 is a 3 series with a 2.5 liter engine and a 530 is a 5 series with a 3.0 liter engine. The engine designations are not precise. Nevertheless, there’s a system.
