I occasionally buy Mellow Yellow Zero (of all things) at my local grocery store as a change up from my usual Cherry Coke Zero / Diet Root Beer habit.
Sodafinder.com says; “12 pack. Originally, Diet Mello Yello was VERY rare, only sold in Sioux Falls/Sioux City and Knoxville/Chatanooga TN, is more regionally available now, but still not nationwide.”
I have never seen it in the Boston area although we did have it when I was growing up in Louisiana. We do have Moxie though in case you get the urge to drink something vile. I was never a huge fan of Mellow Yellow even though I don’t think it is actively bad. I do miss the bubble-gum flavor of Big Red though. It isn’t available here either but I was always quite partial to it even though it is overly sweet.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Mello Yello has fairly good distribution in regions of the country with a particularly strong NHRA following – particularly the Southeast, which is where Mountain Dew (of which Mello Yello was developed to compete against) was originally a regional brand, before Pepsi bought it.
I’m in Michigan and not only does my Meijer carry the 12-packs, they also have a Coca Cola Machine(one that makes any flavor) that carries it and its Zero variety.
I personally think Mello Yello tastes like hot garbage, but I used to live on Mountain Dew. Both are plentifully available around here. Mountain Dew generally takes up one entire cooler case in most convenience stores, while Mello Yello takes up one or two slots at most.
Pibb always seemed just a bit smoother than Dr. Pepper to me, but it was generally not available where I lived, so it is likely just a reaction to the novelty of it whenever I got some.
Winston has been out for over 15 years now. Coca-Cola has held the title sponsorship rights since, and used their Powerade and Full Throttle brands until Mello Yello took over about 4 years ago.
OK, in the video posted above he clearly ennunciates quite rightly.. There’s no slurring or anything in there. It’s not “quite right, slick,” it’s not “quite rightfully,” it’s not anything else, except perhaps “quite right, Lee.”
Now, I can’t guarantee that he sings it exactly the same way on every recording – for all I know he changes the words around, but right there, it’s definitely “rightly.”
Went to Arizona’s only Steak n Shake and they had a multi-machine, and it had five or six MY variations. I had some. Wow, what a taste. It’s like Squirt on acid. Way more…something than Mountain Dew. I can see how some peole might hate it.
It’s moutain dew with a different label made by Coke instead of Pepsi. Taste differences are negligible It’s harder to find because Pespi distributors have managed to keep it out of a lot of areas.
