Nope. Its part of an actual photograph I took in Vienna, on June 8, 2004.
Thanks! I appreciate it.
lol, hope you didn’t hurt yourself.
Thanks! Done.
Nice! Thanks!
Thanks all, you’ve all made me feel happier about my avatar.
Okay - so what the hell is YOURS? All I see is a circle of differently colored circles. (Of course, I think it was until a puzzle thread that I realized your name was not puzz legal!)
That really gets to one of the things I dislike most about tech. If I DID change some setting, it was unwittingly. At first, I was very frustrated with this new system. Eventually, thru the kindness of strangers, I was able to open some setup that allowed me to participate at my minimal desired level. I made NO conscious attempt to standardize anything.
With pretty much all tech, all I want is some minimally functional ability to perform the most basic functions. My preference is to close/hide anything that allows customization or more sophisticated options. Astounds me how frequently I am still able to inadvertently fuck things up.
Mine is a photograph of a mechanical puzzle. In my humble opinion, it may be the very best mechanical puzzle in the world, at least to my tastes. The six simple pieces can be assembled in a number of ways. Two of the prettiest are the benzene ring (pictured) and a 3-over-3 close packing of spheres.
It was originally designed by Stewart Coffin, and made of wood. He has allowed several other craftsmen to make it, too.

This version was modified to be spheres, made of 3D printed nylon, and due to both the new shape and the slight flexibility of nylon, it’s possible to construct a 3x3 triangle using all six pieces, in addition to all the previously-possible shapes.
I believe George Bell came up with the modification. At any rate, I bought the pieces from his shapeways shop and dyed them myself
Thanks for asking.
All the lawyers in the Board seem to have read it that way. I still pronounce it that way in my head.
I’ve noticed that, but it would seem to me that puzz would have to have a meaning to lawyers that it doesn’t to anyone else. Maybe it just speaks to the caliber of lawyers on the board.
I’ll admit I was also a “puzz legal” parser of @puzzlegal 's name (and had no idea how puzz’s could be legal), but it became clear when she added her mechanical ball puzzle avatar. Another win for avatars!
I had an idea of what it was, but the date narrowed it down for me: Transit of Venus.
