The MCU needs to stop calling their “events” Avengers movies. It was bad enough shoehorning in the Guardians of the Galaxy last time. And that had the benefit of “snapping away” half the characters for most of it. Now we have the X-Men and the Fantastic Four crammed in? Might as well throw in Richie Rich and Vampirella while they’re at it. This really is the Hollywood equivalent of seeing how many frat boys can be stuffed into a phone booth.
Or the Hollywood equivalent of exactly what Marvel (and DC) comics has been doing for several decades.
It’s likely going to end on a cliffhanger like Avengers: Infinity War did, to be concluded in Avengers: Secret Wars next year.
At least they’re not putting Deadpool in this one. I assume.
I watched the trailer and it seems like a confusing mess to me. I haven’t watched all of the movies since End Game and I’ve barely watched any of the TV shows, so I wonder if I’ll be able to follow the movie at all.
Just so I’m certain. That is Steve Rogers taking Thor’s hammer at the end of the trailer, right?
Not exactly. The events are mostly chopped up into 22 page chapters featuring individual characters and teams in their own titles. Only then does the culminating special series make any sense.
I believe we are meant to think so. But who knows for sure?
Maybe it’s the Human Torch.
Which is exactly how the MCU has always worked. (Substitute “22 page chapters” with “movies”.)

No, he was subjected to Very Bad Things in the last Deadpool film and un-multiversed. Also, having duplicate versions of the same character would make this an even bigger mess than it already appears to be.
Captain NiceSkrull is certainly an option given the title of the next film.
Jokes aside, I would be very surprise if it’s not the original Captain.
I assume that this and the next movie are inspired by the 2015 Secret Wars (and not the 1984 one, the 1985 one, the 1988 one or the 2004 one without the (second) “s” that was already the inspiration for a terrible miniseries).
I actually feel they had a good plan. They would end the first series with Endgame and retire some of the main characters (who were played by actors who were aging out of the roles). Then they would restart a new series with new characters, casting younger (and lower-salaried) actors.
They also had a good idea with Kang and the multi-verse. This would allow them to bring in characters like the X-Men and the Fantastic Four as established characters rather than having to introduce them as new characters just starting their careers. And a multiversal villain like Kang made a credible threat.
I think the problem as things developed was there were a lot of weak movies and tv series which meant audiences didn’t get invested in the characters. Then there was the decision to abandon the Kang character after Jonathan Majors’ arrest, rather than recast him. This meant there had to be a substantial shift in the arc plotline. And quite frankly, Victor von Doom isn’t the same level of threat as Kang or Thanos.
I watched the recent trailer and I noticed characters like the Thunderbolts, Shang Chi, and some Wakandans. But I didn’t notice any characters from the Eternals movie. Has the studio decided to erase these characters? Or are they saving them for Secret War? If it’s the latter, that’ll mean those characters will have been out of sight for six years by the time they appear.
Again, “not exactly”. The main plots of the non-Avenger movies only set up the current status of the character. They contribute nothing to the actual story in the main event “Avengers” movies. And the 15 second teasers during the credits are hardly the same as an entire comic book. There’s nothing wrong with that approach unless you expect to tell the story of dozens of characters and how they relate to the plot in just three hours.
To add to the above. The creators of the last two Avengers realized how bloated the story would be and engineered a plot device that gave half the characters a “time out”.
No Spider-Man or Hulk? Dollars to donuts the “Brand New Day” post credits scene sets them up in the Secret Wars movie, maybe with an Eddie Brock cameo as well.
