The threat that Thor is scared of is probably an incursion, not VvD. That’s what’s from the 2015 Secret Wars comics event.
But he can be, and has been in several incarnations. As far as I know Kang is still considered to be one of the descendants of Doctor Doom. In his initial outing he found Doom’s time travelling tech, which he used to become Kang. Yes Doom doesn’t have that overall cosmic threat level appearance, but he is a major Threat. The Original Secret Wars has him taking down Galactus and the Beyonder, so at least as far as Kang is concerned he can be that same level, but certainly not at the same level as Thanos.

As you halfway go on to figure, I’d guess the idea is: if they show Tom Holland in the Spider-Man costume with the mask off and a little scar under his eye, people will say, oh, I guess he survives the movie that’s about to come out, maybe picking up a little scar under one eye in the process. And so you instead want to build the mystery and pretend that the latest Spider-Man movie has stakes and maybe he dies and anything can happen!!1!
At least for Spider-Man this could be as simple as: Sony said “no”

I kind of surprised myself by not feeling very much at all from that trailer. I think I am getting bored by Marvel (not Spider-Man though. Already have my tickets for that). This opens the same day as Dune I am shocked to say I will almost certainly see Dune first.
Well, that was certainly a trailer for a movie.
I was unmoved in general, though.

Well, that trailer was…something. Real happy Spiderman wasn’t anywhere to be seen (I can’t stand that character!) I agree with D_G, the threat is likely what he links to, as that is what happened in the comics 11 years ago. It gives Marvel so many options on moving forward it would be silly not to use it as a plot driver.

I’ve definitely lost interest in the MCU since Endgame; I’ve only watched 5 of the Multiverse Saga movies and 2.5 of the series. I’d be willing to get back into it, catch up on things before this comes out, but that didn’t really give me reason to. Probably something that’s better on the big screen, but I don’t think I’m going to watch a dozen mediocre movies before this is released. Maybe a ton of wikipedia in my future.
I just hope the FF find their way back to their own cool, retro-futuristic universe after this is over. The FF could interact with their own Silver Age Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man, what-have-you in future films.

As someone who has hated the multiverse idiocy in the last few years of the MCU, this premise makes sense and is possibly interesting. A multiverse ending scenario is exactly what the MCU needs. If it stops the trend toward killing off megazillions of people to keep kicking the stakes upward, all the better.
The trailer needed to show a magazillion characters. How could there be room for drama as well? Don’t worry: there will be a megazillion additional trailers by the end of the year and by then all the fanboys will be complaining that they give away too much.
There is like 0% chance he isn’t heavily featured in the movie.

Spiderman is by far the most popular Marvel superhero. There’s no way they’d leave him out.
The budget for Tom Holland’s participation has been redirected to Chris Evans.
It’s a Marvel movie.
It’s been five years and ten MCU films ago since Spider-Man has appeared in a Marvel movie.
