I mean, normally the computer works fine, but when I run AVG after a few minutes everything freezes, except the mouse. I can still move the mouse around, but I can’t do anything. In fact, even the clock stops running. Also, to the best of my knowledge, it won’t unfreeze after a while either, this morning, around 8am the clock still said 2am.
I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled.
Any thoughts?
Also, I’m having a hell of a time trying to google this as it just looks at the keywords and finds articles that basically say “Your computer freezes? Try AVG”
I assume you have AVG free as he pro version has tech support. However, there is an AVG forum you can try for AVG issues if unable to get tech support. Google “AVG forum”.
No thoughts except to commisserate with you. I’ve had problems since installing a paid download of AVG (posted a thread yesterday, no replies, oh well). Is it running a scan when things freeze or is that all the time? The Yahoo toolbar install option gave me odd search results. They seem to have fixed that with the latest update.
I’m disappointed, I thought AVG was “all that”, but it’s a pain.
Odd, I never had any trouble with an older computer running AVG.
I now have Avast! on my main desktop and it is really great. Give the free version a try and see if you have any problems. If not, stick with that and/or buy the very reasonably-priced pro version.
When I first installed AVG I had issues with it freezing till I disabled the “link checker” and the “email scanner.” Then the computer just took off running. AVG was actually checking each link I ran across on the Internet. That was way too much. And doing the same for the email. I’ve never had an issue with the links and I’m careful with my emails about opening attachments.
