Avoid Jesus Today!

I’ve come across a couple billboards around SF that were put up by presumably well-meaning people. (As far as I’m concerned, they’re mis-guided, though)

They’re promoting religion, and they didn’t plan too well, or at least didn’t plan on some creative editing to be done to their signs. Intact, they read:

AVOID DAMNATION
REPENT
ACCEPT JESUS TODAY

However, anyone with a bucket of paint can (and has) easily change them to read:

AVOID

JESUS TODAY

Oddle, that’s the entire message - there’s no smaller text advising that the ad was sponsored by the Morons, 73rd-Day Adventists, or the Catholic church on the corner.

In the Netherlands, we have an organization called Christians against Cursing (“Bond tegen het Vloeken”). For a decade, they’ve paid money for poster advertisements on trainstations, showing a parrot, with the caption:

“Cursing is learned behaviour! Don’t be a parrot !”

Invariable, some smartass would have added in black writing:

“So is praying”

I guess that just shows the difference between the Netherlands and the US. Around here you’d’ve probably seen someone write in “Fuckin’-A!”
