Goboy, I feel that it is important for gay people to come out. However, I don’t think it’s an obligation. Yes, it would do wonders for the movement, but if the situation isn’t safe or if the person in it perceives the situation not to be safe…
As much as martyrs can do for a movement, I’d like to have a few less queers with their heads bashed in, ya know?
It is already a political issue, and will only cease to be when there is acceptance and tolerance. One cannot be boring and normal when those who are not like you act as if you are a freak on display at the carnival.

Just reacting briefly to something said earlier. Just because a gay person lives in an area that’s tagged as tolerant doesn’t necessarily mean that everybody, or even every company is going to be ok with their coming out. I’ve heard about some bad situations here in Southern California, even.
