Ooooo…should have read first. Strike one vote from Utah then. :smack:
When I tabulated the states I had been in, I realized that they included every state that had a seacoast (including the Gulf coast and Alaska and Hawaii), every New England and mid-Atlantic state as well as all the midwest states between WV and MO including MI). The only other state I have been in is Colorado. Plus, I once changed planes in Nevada (which I mistakenly voted for).
FWIW, I’ve been to all ten Canadian provinces, but not to any of the Territories.
Done, and done.
It’s remarkable how stable the rankings have been. New York has just edged out California, has just edged out New York, etc., for a couple of days now.
New York and Florida. More to come, someday, I hope.
Hey, if we are going there, I have been in New South Wales, Victoria, Northern Territory, and Tasmania. Was planning on hitting Queensland, Western Australia, and South Australia this year, but lack of employment has pretty much killed that unless I win the lottery. Maybe I should buy a ticket.

Not bad for a Canuck.
Minot, baby!
Seriously, when I was growing up, Minot was the closest major city (Canadian or American) to our home.
Was quite common for people to go across to Minot for “48” - to shop and then take advantage of duty-free allowance for two days outside of Canada.
Every one except New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Alaska. I’ll tick those off one of these years.
I’m sorry, but Minot doesn’t qualify as a “something”. North Dakota has almost nothing of interest to anybody other than those who live there. I’ve driven across both the Interstate and the northern route and it is mind-numbingly boring. One of my ancestors was one of the first settlers of Devils Lake (which now has a huge casino that attracts a lot of tourists), managed to live there for nearly 20 years, then eventually committed suicide a few years later in California. I’m convinced they’re related events.
Having seen all 50, I have to agree that North Dakota is one of the places where we had to stretch hardest to find something to do. If we hadn’t been trying for all 50, we could easily have decided to skip it. That said, we did:
Tour the pilot training facilities at UND-Grand Forks
Drive through Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and
Visit the Pioneer Muesum in Watford City - not a big thing, but many of these small-town local history museums have something interesting in them. This one had a collection of bridal gowns, including one made from deerskin.
Alabama has Space Camp. That’s the only reason I’ve been.
The Shrine to Music in Vermillion is vaguely entertaining if you’re in the area. Wall Drug - not so much, unless you’re thirsty.
I checked them all. The only ones I visited for the first time as an adult were Alaska and Hawaii. The others are all from childhood driving trips with my parents. We would spend 3 weeks every summer camping our way around the US. The only state we ever flew to was California (and drove from there to Oregon and Washington)
Now I just need to get off this continent more often.
38 states, plus DC, and I’ll pick up Hawaii with next month’s vacation.
My job involves a fair bit of travel, which explains a lot of my total. There’s a fairly large number of cities which I’ve technically visited, but that “visit” consisted of:
- The airport
- A focus group facility
- A hotel near the airport
