Aww...my widdle froggies!

Last night i heard a faint weird noise from my frog tank (in which I have two african dwarf frogs, boy and girl…Fred and Fran):

“zzzzzzzzzzEEEPzzzzzzzzEEEP. zzzzzzzzzEEPzzzEEP”

This went on for about half an hour, with me thinking “Wow! I finally get to hear Fred sing!”

Then I look up, and Fred is on Fran’s back, hugging her, and riding her piggyback for about three hours. They’re such good pals!!!

We live alongside a lovely creek, and spring is really marvelous for frogsong. A friend’s little girl, though, was frightened by the noise, so I explained to her that it was all the boy froggies singing to all the girl froggies, and they were singing, “I looooooove you!!! Come maaaaaaary meee!” She asked her mom if that’s what the frogs were really saying.

Here mom said, “Close enough.”

You may end up with more than TWO frogs at this rate.

Oooh, you will be getting even widdler froggies soon  Congrats!

My little frog brothers wouldn’t know a girl if one jumped out and bit them, so they sing to the television, the shower, the hairdryer and the hoover. They are Whites Tree Frogs and very pretty. Or rather the one is, the other brother passed sadly away at christmas at the age of at least 8 years.

Nice to see another frog fancier in the house

Sounds like froggy went a courting, uh unh.

Are they big enough to cram into a potato gun and shoot into peoples’ faces yet?

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Where’d you hear that one? Were you listening to Boortz the other night, because the way he delivered it had me laughing well before he even got to the funny part… I’m gonna see if I can kinda recreate it. This is not a direct quote.

“Before I go in to the details here, I’m going to tell you that a 17 year-old boy has been blinded for life. Perhaps he had dreams of being a pilot, and now those dreams are crushed. Blinded for life. Imagine his grief and the grief of his family right now. So now that you know that, if you laugh at all at what I am about to tell you, you are a truly bad person. I’m going to tell this story, and if you have any shred of human decency you will not crack a smile… here goes…”

Weird…I figured I would have eggs by now, but i don’t. Maybe they were mating for pleasure (or is that just pigs and humans…LOL)?

I don’t think I’ll keep the eggs anyway. Too much trouble raising tadpoles. Fred and Fran can have 'em for a snack.

I have 2 little African Clawed frogs too (Greenie and Pinkie).

I’ve seen frogsex a bunch of times, but I’ve never seen any eggs either. I was kind of thinking maybe they’re both males and they’re just confused.

I also have 2 Firebelly toads that chirp at each other all the time as well. No babies for them, either.

Not funny. On so many levels.

SuperLorie, if you were going to get eggs, you would have had them immediately after they mated. Frog eggs are fertilized externally. And, frogs are not really good at recognizing each other, when they’re in the heat of the moment, so males will sometimes amplex (what you called riding piggyback) other males. Chances are, you have two Freds. Or, a Fred and a Frank.

I swear to god they’re a Fred and Fran! According to all the descriptions of ADF’s I’ve read…Fred has white bumps at his armpit area and no tail bump, and Fran has no armpit bumps and has a tail bump. And Fran is bigger, and more hippy.

But, if they are experiencing the love that dares not speak it’s name, more power to 'em. At least there won’t be icky eggs.

So in frog mating…they do the hug/swim thing, then the Girl Frog squirts out eggs, and the Boy Frog does his thing on 'em?

Three hours?! Not bad Fred ‘n’ Fran! You know, there’s a joke about French/frogs and lovemaking in there somewhere…
