I finally decide on a pitching coach that I would enjoy having sexual relations with, and who has a fascinating looks/accent dichotomy, and he fucking resigns.
“personal feud” with Don Baylor. Don Baylor…can kiss my ever loving ass.
Oscar Acosta was the pitching coach of the Chicago Cubs.
The only thing good about the Chicago Cubs this year: was pitching.
Makes a lot of sense Don.
What’s the feud about you think? Don not crying enough in the dugout? Fights over sunflower seeds? Don lose a Century Club contest at Sluggers?
jarbaby, do you like, keep a list of all available profressions, should opportunity arise?
It’s just that the “I’ve finally chosen my pitching coach” line threw me there. I have visions of you going through endless databases all broken out by federal SIC codes.
As for Acosta…I thought he was a macho idiot at the beginning of the season when he sent down Will Ohlman for daring to complain that his arm hurt. But the results were good this year, even if he did allow Farnsworth to be overworked.
That said, it’s clear to me that Baylor is the one who has to go.
Ooh! Hey, jarbaby, is there any possibility that all my years of faithful Cubs devotion can land me a nice position on the bench? I know…I’ll be third base coach. They don’t do much, anyway.
Personal feud between Baylor and Acosta somehow stemming from Mack Newton somehow. And also, apparently, Acosta was urged to take an ‘anger management’ course this season and didn’t. Yikes a moly, what’s up with this guy? From what I remember he only got thrown out of one game, and I rarely see him charge out of the dug out on calls.
Assumptions:
Baylor is a dead weight puss who shows no emotion, unless it’s that bland “on the verge of tears” emotion that’s permanently on his face.
Acosta is a screamer (sayyy) who probably chose to tell Baylor where to stick his management skills.
No big response from MacPhail…could this mean Baylor’s on his way out too?
And of course, since no one will actually tell us the source of the fued, I have to think back to why the Cubs traded Raphael Palmiero…because he was banging everyone’s wife and making Ryne Sandberg mad.
jarbaby
Baylor, this guy has got to go. This was determined the day he mismanaged the roster and lost Little Sarge. Remember this guy, he will be haunting us 19 times a season.
Acosta certainly has a attitude, I haven’t been able to figure out if its a good one or not. I’ve wondered who really is making the calls during the game about using the bullpen. I’ve seen alot of head scratchers, I’m not sure who to blame, Baylor or Acosta. The Cubs pitching staff was excellent this year. Did Acosta teach them it all? But, looking at the numbers shouldn’t we have dominated more often, and more regularly? Why hasn’t anyone taught Farnsworth a change-up yet?
I think the Cubs need to get Alou. How great would that be?
Oh well, I’m still hungover from the ballpark yesterday, so I don’t have much emotion on the topic just yet. I did at least get to see Lieber’s #20 and Sammy’s #61.
The cryptic MacPhail comment “it will come to light that this is best for all of us”
I expected to hear thunder after it.
And I just read a statement from Acosta that nearly made me cry. He said he really liked everyone on the team, and he gave it his best and he thought Baylor would appreciate it. He even thanked Baylor for the opportunity!
See? I’ve been bitching about Baylor for two years, and finally, FINALLY, people agree with me.
To respond to a couple points made here:
Farnsworth’s arm. I’d almost bet this was Baylor’s fault. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if that contributed to the feud, with Oscar wanting to give the guy a couple days off a week, and Baylor thinking he needed to be called in for 2 innings to protect a 7-run lead.
Gary Matthews Jr. wasn’t a Baylor cut. He was a McPhail cut. And he was a good cut. Matthews will never be more than an adequate 4th or 5th outfielder. He’s got AAAA-player (at best), written all over him. This season is also likely to be the best season he ever has. That’s not good. Real basic rule, here: If the Pirates pick a player up via free agency or waivers, there’s a REAL good chance the guy shouldn’t be in a major-league stadium without buying a ticket.
I thought it was Dave Martinez that got traded for screwing around with Ryno’s wife. Although, trading Palmeiro instead of Grace was just blatant stupidity, so perhaps that had something to do with it.
Hmmm…well of course that whole issue is all hearsay and legend…but I could have sworn it was Palmeiro.
Regardless, it’s madness…total madness. Of course now Acosta will end up being the pitching coach of some team that kicks our ass six ways from Sunday next yer.
Just a couple of scary and funny quotes from the Sun Times Today:
WHAT…THE…FUCK. Guys, I was just joking about the 10th Grade relationship stuff, but come on!!! “Augie Ojeda likes ME better!” “Who cares? I played cards with Kerry Wood.” both guys stick their tongues out
and now the frightening prospect of losing Kerry Wood because Don Baylor is an ass:
