No, it’s playing out about how I thought it would.
-
No, not trolling. I see what I’m doing as roughly the same as the “Stupid Republican Idea of the Day” type threads. Mine are just far less well received because my opinions are in the minority.
-
Sorry, didn’t intend to “abandon”. But… at some point I’m going to have to eat, shower, and sleep, so at some point every thread dies. Just letting everyone know that if they wanted to keep up the kerfuffle I wouldn’t be able to laugh at them until Monday.

I am honestly amazed that anyone saw fit to suggest re-open this thread. Thanks. I think.
A beacon of WIN in a thread full of FAIL.
You know, in Rush’s case, at least he gets paid to be a complete dumbass. I wonder what are Jimmy’s and Stephe’s excuses?
I think Obama did entirely the right thing in putting forward the US position, and I think he’s taken a lot of unfair heat from Republicans and others on this subject. Unfortunately the heat seems to have gained some traction (heat? Traction? Mixed metaphors?), largely because the average American is a dumbass of astounding proportions, to whom “sports” means “Football! Basketball! NAAAAAAAASCAR! Maybe hockey if you get 7 drinks in me first! USA!” and to them the Olympics is just a bunch of twinkletoed communists mincing and capering to the Scissor Sisters. If Obama would have been pushing for an NFL team expansion, they’d be having “We love the President Day!” in 236 cities, just like back in Civilization I.
I do think Chicago was a poor choice for a venue, however, but oh well.
In their case, it’s just natural talent.
Well, at least now we know we can call you a liar, and point to this thread as proof of it.
A serious question to the OP:
If Chicago had won, would you have started a pit thread about how evil it was that President Obama had used his influence to help out his home state for no doubt nefarious purposes?
Yes, I’m also curious what the OP would have considered the “correct” course of action for Obama.
Never to have left Kenya, presumably.
So many layers of funny, there.
Twofer, no extra charge. Extra cheezy poofs.
Tapioca Dextrin, I don’t know what I *would *have done. Seeing as how it didn’t happen in this universe (and I don’t have insight into the parallel universe where it did) I can’t say for certain how I *would *have reacted. But what you describe doesn’t sound like something I’d do. So the answer to your question is “probably not”.
Beadalin, “correct”? I think he did the “correct” thing. If there had been an American city other than Chicago mounting an effort to win the games I think he probably would’ve also gone personally to pitch the IOC. If Hilary had won she would’ve too, as would’ve McCain. Of course, if Hil or McC had done it, on behalf of Chicago, there wouldn’t be this delicious irony at play. There was no way Obama *couldn’t *look like he was shilling for his cronies, it was just the perfect storm. Chicago bidding for the Olympics, Chicago politician wins the Presidency 8-9 months earlier, boom. I’m sure the members of the committee from Chicago, in addition to supporting their hometown favorite in general, were thrilled when he won because they knew 8-9 months later he’d be going to bat for them in front of the IOC. Likewise, I’m sure every corrupt politician in Chicago was hopping up and down screaming wildly while masturbating with Crisco and slapping high five with their free hand because they saw the gravy train coming. And then it didn’t come. Nor did they. And they all had a big and I mocked them. Simple, really.
Outside of your somewhat limited imagination, have you even the slightest evidence for any of this?
You certainly are.
The right called, they want their accusation back.
It’s a good thing that Obama didn’t put the “Mission Accomplished” sign up too early. That would have been embarrassing.
Now… **Chefguy **and **Snowboarder Bo **and all you other pigeons, I want you to wait right here, glued to the screen, this thread open and nothing else, because I am not, not, going away now. I am not going to stop participating in this thread because I am not leaving the place where I have access to a computer-machine, and I am not going to begin enjoying the weekend. m’kay?
Isn’t it funny how only Conservatives seem to consider Obama as “The Great One”?
Yeah, I’ve noticed that. Makes a convenient strawman, I guess.
I’ve had that discussion with my father-in-law. It’s a lost cause. They’ve all pretty much bought that that happens.
Of course, finding one person who has custom painted their car with a portrait of Obama in Pittsburgh didn’t help the cause any, but what can you do?
I gotta say, I saw this and assumed you were joking. Then I went to Fox News’ website and sure enough, it actually frickin’ says that, word for word.
And failed, and you’re happy.
It’s hard to see that as anything other than spiteful.
