Was that Riff-Raff or David Lee Roth?
Ahhh Axl Rose my first teenage crush.
I feel old
When I first saw Axl, I thought it was Mike Meyers doing a spoof.
Well, I have to say that I was disappointed with the performance, but I was definitely intrigued when I saw Buckethead up there. A big “holy sh*t” factor. Buckethead is pretty good, though I think Les Claypool and Bootsy Collins are classier company than Axl Rose. Axl dismantled the band, if he’s not doing well, it’s just the way it goes when you screw the talent.
As for Megadeth, they should hire Kirk Hammett to play guitar, and revive Megadeth by salvaging the only thing about Metallica worth salvaging.
Erek
I don’t think any of the Buckethead links gave his offical website.
In case you want to go there it’s www.bucketheadland.com
I used to see Buckethead in fanboy (I think it was Guitar)magazines. I remember one story about him that seems to have stuck with me. Supposedly he used to hide out behind buildings or some such and wait for people to pull up to them. Then he would run after them wearing the mask and bucket while recording any potential screaming.
It is amazing he has lived so long. Personally I don’t know if I would believe that story or not. I think he is about as talented as Axl is which says volumes about his lack of playing ability and reliance on gimmicks rather than musicianship.
Did you actually see GNR’s performance on the VMA’s? Putting aside whether or not Axl sounded like shit, Buckethead was doing some amazing guitar runs. That isn’t something you can do just walking in off the street and picking up a guitar and dicking around for 2 hours.
And Axl does havean ear for talent, otherwise there would never have been the original GNR.
Oh yeah, and gimmicks don’t help you to last that long in the music biz unless you have some more then half-decent musical chops. Two examples:
-
KISS. Bitch about how corny and kitschy the makeup is all you fucking want, but Simmons, Stanley & Co,. have some very good tunes out there. Plus they are up front about the kitschy bit.
-
Slipknot. Where the fuck did they go? For all the hype it got, Iowa was supposed to be the record for late summer 2001. what happens? It debuts at #2, a huge disappointment right there, and spends all of 2 weeks in the Top 10 albums. Of course, Corey Taylor & Co, are now saying that they “never expected Slipknot to be a long-lasting band, it’s more of an experiment.”
OH PLEASE.
Step up to the fucking plate and admit that you are very limited musically and we will happily let you go your merry way, but don’t give me this bullshit “experiment” shit.
BTW, who IS Buckethead?
