How far do you commute?

Maybe fifty yards

One flight of stairs.

On foot.

I drive 1.15 miles(1.85 kilometers). Most days I’d walk or ride a bike, but I go to work before dawn and I don’t want to walk alone in the dark.

  1. I think 13 miles
  2. 25 minutes (low speed limits on most of the roads between here and there)
  3. Car. I wish I was up for a 26 mile walk every day since I hate to drive, but I’m really not.

My last job was 80 miles away. The commute was 1 hour and 15 minutes at the absolute least, and could be over three hours with bad traffic.

Now I commute 9 miles and it takes 20-30 minutes. I’ve even ridden my bike in.

A one-bedroom in L.A. might cost $1,000 or $1,500 per month. Rents in an outlying area will probably be cheaper. While sitting in traffic is indeed a waste of life, it can be cheaper to commute than to pay 50% more rent. If you’re just eking out a living as it is, moving closer to work is not an option. I happened to see a page posted in a real estate office window. An old 2-br house was selling for $669,000 in Torrance. A 3-br house in the Antelope Valley is like 80 or 90 miles away, but can be had for $300,000 or $350,000 (pulling non-current numbers out of my head).

  1. From Aoiz to the other side of Pamplona, about 35km.

  2. 30-45 min, depending on traffic and weather.

  3. A Toyota Yaris with asthmatic ponys instead of horses.

When we move to the new offices it will be only 22km and about 15min.

  1. Not quite sure - I think about 8 miles.

  2. About 15 minutes.

  3. By car, at least until I get a bicycle to replace the one that was stolen. :frowning:

Ooh, nice ride threemae.

  1. How many miles (km) from home to daily destination? ** 2.9 miles**

  2. How long does it take (average)? 7 to 8 minutes

  3. Travel mode(s)? Car

  1. 8 Miles
  2. One Hour
  3. Subway (F/V Trains)

Seconded. Sweet machine.

For me:

  1. 19 miles
  2. 20 minutes by car, 70 minutes or so by bicycle
  3. Depending on the weather, either a Toyota Sienna or a Trek 1500 triple

Heh heh. Me too.

I’m going to count. Let’s see.

From the bed to the coffee maker: 9 steps, then down 15 stairs, then 8 steps to the kitchen.

From the coffee maker to the office: 8 steps to the stairs, back up 15 stairs, and 7 steps to the office.

Sometimes my morning communte inculdes a pile-up of dogs in the living room forcing me to take the dining room bypass (which would add a couple extra steps both ways).

For my family. I’ll give up anything for them. A 40 minute commute is not that big a sacrifice. I used to live in a tiny house 5 miles from work. Now I live 43 miles away (most used route). But now I have my dream house on 3.25 acres. I can look out my kitchen window and see rolling hills and farmland. May not mean much to someone in another part of the country but this is New Jersey. And no I can’t move out of state.
Now back to the OP. I have been told you can always tell if someone is from New Jersey. If you ask them how far something is they always give the answer in minutes, never miles.

35-40 minutes. I hardly ever have to travel during peak hours. Those times I do, 60-90 minutes. 15 minutes on country roads, about 20 minutes on the highway. Of course it’s not speeding, I’m keeping with the flow of traffic. Public transportation is not an option.

  1. About 25 miles
  2. About 1 hour door to desk
  3. 10 minute walk on each side of a commuter train.
In Chicago, if you work downtown you have a considerable range of options of where you can live and still take the train. I read the paper or a book or magazine. If I had to sit in traffic for an hour a day, my head would explode!
