The thread was locked, and rightly so (in my opinion), so I couldn’t respond there.
But the next time I choose to join in a pile-on, I might do well to go back and read what you posted.
Well said.

Thanks Shodan, I was hoping for a bit of feedback on that, to see if I was the only person who saw the parallels.
Often, if no one else says anything, the Pitted person uses that as justification for their actions. “See? You’re the only person who has a problem with this.”
I’m not saying pile-ons are good, but it’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Say something and it’s a pile-on, or it’s junior modding. Say nothing and you indirectly condone the action being taken.
It wasn’t so much seeing the parallels. It was looking at the crowd of waiting huskies, and seeing myself in the midst of it.

Shodan
And here I thought Shodan and I would never agree on anything more meaningful than the first letter of the English alphabet:)
Don’t blame me - blame Revtim.

To be honest, I don’t get why pile-ons are such terrible, awful things. I’ve seen a few that I thought were undeserved, but as an insitution (for lack of a better word) I don’t see what the problem is. Maybe that’s because I’ve never been on the receiving end of one. But maybe that’s because I’ve managed to make my way for several years here without saying something so patently offensive that every person who saw it was moved to condemn it.
I don’t think the wolf-pack analogy holds water, either. If I get pissed at something someone has said on the boards, I’m going to speak up, wether I’m the first person to say something or the fiftieth. If there are four pages of people angry at one poster, that says to me that the initial transgression was so appalling that almost anyone who reads it will have the same reaction. I don’t see it as a pack mentality, I see it as the reactions of dozens of individuals. Considering the wildly disparate make-up and generally contrary nature of the board membership, that’s got to be one doozy of a bad move.
I missed that little drama.
Shodan, you nailed it.
Miller, you nailed it.
Shodan, posting that takes a lot of class. 'preciate the “heads up.”
It happens; don’t beat yourself up too much about it. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t taken part in similar activites, that make me cringe now when I think of them.
