I hardly ever watch live TV, everything gets recorded on my DVR for later viewing (and commercial skipping. I learned long ago that anything on Sunday night is set up to record an extra hour after the show nominally ends because of the damn sports.
[gloomy]
They’ve just one into overtime.
One thing I like about Fox on Sunday is their 1/2 hour of padding from 6:30 to 7:00 CT (The OT). It won’t always work (an overtime that goes full-time for instance), but it will the normal vagaries of games.
Late last night I was re-labeling some potted plants that have spent their summer on the edge of the driveway, and went over to a light by the garage to see better.
Just then an unearthly screaming and thrashing erupted from the dark no-man’s-land between me and the pond. The sounds of rage and doom lasted perhaps three seconds, and then there was silence. Or what I thought was silence, because I realized something was still moving out there. And worse, the subtle sounds suggested ripping - and munching.
I’m not sure what I’ll find when I go to investigate, but for sure it’ll be in daylight.
Wild Kentucky is not to be trifled with.
Went dancing last night. Can’t walk this morning. Fuck sciatica!
Preach on! I fucking hate it.
Sounds like the opening of a horror movie, or a science fiction story!
Or something that happened in the wilds of Kentucky!
TIL- ‘Wild Kentucky’ is not bourbon.
I have to pit my own son, Dweezil, this morning.
He’d been running errands for all of us last week (mainly drugstore runs), since we were of course shut in due to 'rona.
We urged him (and the housemate) to go for PCR tests. He did his Friday.
Results, Saturday: POSITIVE.
Much nagging of him, and he finally contacted Kaiser, Sunday, to set up a telehealth visit.
Which he just had. He told me “they think I’m likely in the home stretch now”/
“Uh, when did you start having symptoms?”.
“Wednesday night, maybe Thursday morning”.
SHRIEK!!! So we’d been sending him out on errands, while he was symptomatic - and he was (as far as I know) just wearing a cloth mask. Thus endangering everyone he came into contact with.
ARGH!!!
If he’d called Kaiser Saturday, he might at least have been given Paxlovid (or maybe not, as he’s young and otherwise quite healthy, and it’s not like he’s at risk of giving it to US). But that option’s now unavailable, as he’s close to the 5 day cutoff.
Hey, remember when I complained about that deeply personal problem and then I found out it was mastitis? Well, it might be happening again. The baby bit me Friday evening and I have been sore ever since, with the pain only getting worse. I’ve been putting neosporin on it (and cleaning it off before I nurse him) and hoping it doesn’t get worse.
Ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch.
From what I recall with my one brief experience with pain in that area, you’re encouraged to keep nursing and/or pumping - but you may also want to call the doctor to see about antibiotics.
Two things
I finally bought some horseradish (not sauce, just ground up stuff in a jar with beet juice). I also had to return my CAC card (security key card today). The second one has really got me feeling low and like a failure.
I lost my big scissors a few months ago. I’m sure they didn’t break- they were made entirely of thick steel none of that thin piece of steel in a plastic handle. It’s possible I accidentally threw them away. They were one of my favorite tools and we’ve been through a lot of projects together. I’m 90% sure that they are buried somewhere in my apartment.
Today, I gave in and bought a new pair of big all steel scissors at Home Depot. They cost about $17.
On the upside, buying new expensive scissors is the best way to ensure my old ones will turn up.
When I got home from work yesterday evening, my sister was watching the Bears/Packers game on Peacock. Whenever play wasn’t being shown, it was just a splash screen saying “the game will be shown shortly,” for up to five minutes before.
I’ve emptied the kitchen garbage piece by piece into a new bag while searching for something. It’s always the last place I check.
They’ve been missing for months. My hunch is that they are in a denim pocket ( cut the denim back pockets out of jeans before I throw them away. They are handy for hanging up on a thumb tack and storing things) somewhere in my apartment.
Two things
First, I now have horseradish and gefilte fish. I opened the horseradish and scooped some onto a plate. Now, I CAN"T GET THE JAR OF GEFILTE FISH OPEN! I tried one of those rubber disc grip things and everything.
The second is more serious- I knew a guy who was in my circle of friends/ acquaintances. We had a lot in common. I wanted a chance to transition him from acquaintance to friend. He stopped breathing today. I was his friend on FaceBook and saw mutual friends posting tributes on his wall. This isn’t about me. I’m saddened by his passing. But, I didn’t really know him.
I take deaths like this as a reminder- tell the ones you love how much they mean to you, and end relationships/get rid of people you don’t want in your life.
I love you guys.
IIRC the lid is pressed on, not threaded. Try tapping the edge of the lid with the back of a butter knife
I tried again and got it open. The fish was everything I remembered. The horseradish was not remotely hot enough.
