Baby nasal cavity condition, medical problem

Not me, not anyone I know…Not looking for medical advice.

Several years ago I read a piece that described a medical condition of infants where somethin was amiss with their nasal cavity. The infant couldn’t suckle and the treatment seemed to be running a tube in one nostril, then looped around and out the other nostril. SOmehow this allowed the baby to breath or at least function better until surgery.
I also think that Llamas were the only other mammal known to have this condition.

What was I reading about? It wasn’t a cleft palate (I don’t think) I think it was some other, possibly similar, condition.

I’d like to read up on it and refresh my memory, but I can’t find anything based on my faulty memory and insuffient google searche.

You are thinking of choanal atresia (see here) but the tube bit is just diagnostic. It can’t advance through the nose into the throat and may even double out. Many babies need to nose breathe and complete blockage is a bit of an emergent issue.
