So, I don’t watch any of the bachelor shows at all. However, my understanding of them is a bunch of people partying and hooking up continually.
So, Bachelor in Paradise has suspended production due to complaints by a producer of “misconduct”. The misconduct was apparently 2 contestants having some sort of sexual relations in a hot tub.
Am I completely misinformed about these shows, because I thought that sort of thing was common and expected?
Also, can someone explain why I’m so drawn to this story?
“Misconduct”
no authorities involved
Perp: My character has been assassinated
News (Prior to her statement): Victim’s name was involved
Victim: I don’t even know what happened.
Isn’t this pretty much the definition of, oh, what’s that word…
Rape? Or at least sexual assault? Why does it seem to be being treated so casually?
Shouldn’t the authorities be involved? Shouldn’t the perp be in jail or out on bail? Shouldn’t the crew be under investigation (by authorities) for allowing it (if they saw it live)?
I’ve been expecting something like this to happen for awhile. Reality shows like The Bachelor provide alcohol, romantic locations, cast people eager to be on TV, and encourage everyone to let their inhibitions go. The crew films whatever happens. The raunchier it is, the better the ratings.
I assumed that sooner or later charges would be made over what ever happened during filming. I guess a judge will be reviewing the unedited footage.
It’s amazing these Reality Shows don’t generate more law suits.
It’s not clear what’s going on here at all. The complaint was about the producers to start with. The tabloids are going to sensationalize the story no matter what it’s about. The blurb i saw this morning said there was nothing terrible going on at all, and it’s on tape so one day we may find out.
ETA: If not for a random encounter with a headline i wouldn’t have even heard of this show. Seems like this kind of thing was the whole point of the show.
This is probably the crux of the problem: man and woman were super-drunk, and film crew kept on filming for the entertainment value despite that it should have been obvious that their judgment was impaired. The woman who lawyered up will probably have her lawyers arguing that the producers should have stepped in and stopped things. The producers will probably point to her contract, and suggest their role is not to be her babysitters.
Whatever the case, it’ll be used for ratings-fodder. I expect a teary People magazine cover shot, with her tragic story.
Do they really just roll film on people fucking in hot tubs? I would think explicit sex scenes are beyond even scummy reality shows. They aren’t pornographers. I really thought they would have stopped them and told them to take it to a private room if they were getting too hot and heavy. If only because they can’t air sex scenes anyway and they don’t want to be held accountable for whatever might happen during the hookup itself, as they currently are. Don’t they have lawyers?
That’s before even getting into the consent aspect.
Nothing like watching a bunch of Reality Show Rejects make complete fools of themselves. (There’s a Trump joke in there somewhere, but this is CS, so we’ll have to let that go.)
I am ashamed to admit that back in my college days I’d watch some of the MTV (or related) “dating shows” for entertainment value. And by entertainment value I mean “watch trashy people make idiotic decisions on camera for negligible gain”.
Those reality shows had no problem putting a blur on the screen when something clearly lewd was going on. I wasn’t sure if I was more surprised that the camera people kept filming or the participants didn’t mind having the camera watch from 2 feet away. I’m sure my 19 year old hormones didn’t care either way, and that’s really the target market for those shows.
I haven’t seen the show in question, but I’m not at all surprised they’d keep filming while the couple starts getting it on. I am a little surprised they don’t intervene when a felony is occurring, but then the producers probably gave both the participants the alcohol and probably look the other way when some obvious misdemeanors are occurring, so I shouldn’t be surprised I suppose
Still not clear what they were doing. I’m guessing at most this comes down to the producers filming someone too drunk to know what they were doing. The woman claims to be a victim in something she doesn’t remember happening, is she trying out for Attorney General or something?
I’ll wait for some facts before drawing conclusions, but I think there’s a limit to what a consent clause in a contract can allow and it’s the producers who are at jeopardy here.
Yes, it happened in Mexico. And everyone involved has returned to the USA. So for any criminal charges to occur, the alleged victim would have to return to Mexico, file a police report, and the Mexican govt. would have to request extradition of the alleged perpetrator.
