Got another Kansas-card from Baker listing the state’s official animal and vegetable mascots. Did you know that her favorite bird is the meadowlark? Now you do.
From Cheez_Whia, a shot of the Durango & Silverton train making it’s way along the Animas river. I haven’t ridden the train, but I’ve driven the “Million Dollar Highway”, which is a fantastic scenic route.
Only one set of the cards I sent are unaccounted for. That person signed up, but has never posted in this thread one way or another, as either having sent cards or as having received any.
I got another card today, this one from Anaglyph in Switzerland. Despite that, it’s a lovely scene of Boathouse Row in Philadelphia, a city I’ve not yet been to.
And I love your “fall 2015 postcard exchange” stickers!
I received a postcard from anaglyph even though I’m not in the exchange this time! It’s a scene from the Blue Ridge Parkway. It occurs to me that I don’t recall seeing pics of it.
Anaglyph, I sent you an envelope a month ago? Or more? But haven’t heard that you received it. I’ll send another.
From the Netherlands came two cards in an envelope: One a beautiful view showing Venice at nightfall (Yes, Karen Lingel, Campanile di San Marco somewhat resemble Sather tower), the other a black-and white photograph or theEiffel tower in Paris, with a bright red Citroen 2CV in the foreground. Thank you very much,** JoseB**.
Received the last missing card today from **Cheez_Whia **showing great scenery from the Durango and Silverton railway line. Though I know that it’s about the other Durango way down south, as a big Dylan fan I was instantly reminded of Romance In Durango: “Hot chilli peppers in the blistering sun…”. Thanks a lot, Cheez_Whia.
With cards received from all involved parties and all my cards finding their way across the pond (or just across one border to Switzerland in one case), this exchange is a big success in my book, and it was very fun. It was the first time I participated, so I didn’t have any interesting cards at hand since I had given up writing postcards some twenty years ago, but I will watch out from now on to get me some nice cards for the next postcard exchange. I certainly will be in again next time.
I arrived home from my mini-vacation (picked up enough postcards for the next exchange) to find a card from Whiskey Dickens showing Niagara falls, which is apparently already frozen over . Yeesh, it was 90 degrees F in Sacramento (that’s 32.2 Canadian)! Thanks, Whiskey!
The falls wouldn’t be frozen over now. That requires a long stretch of way-below-freezing temps, which hasn’t happened. It’s just beginning to get down to the freezing point in the region on the coldest nights.
The falls did freeze, mostly, during the polar vortex last winter–and may yet do so this time around, but not yet. Phew!
It was a joke, son. You see, a) the postcard was frozen falls. b) Canada is cold, and some people think it is frozen all the time c) it is funny to pretend to be one of the people who think Canada is frozen all the time d) it was 90 degrees in Sacramento.
So now that I have explained the explanation, it should be funny again…
At last the Mother Country is heard from! Got a nice portrait of Her Majesty and some authentic Queen’s English from SciFiSam. Via air mail, but I think the Royal Post just attached it to a swallow and hoped for the best.
The delay is my fault - sorry. It proved more difficult than expected to get international stamps because you can only buy them in person from a post office and their opening hours are awkward for me.
Hope you enjoyed the translation work, me old china
