Haven’t been on the boards in a while. I was in Dubai for about 2 weeks for a business trip.
One question I’m still asking myself is, why the hell is that city so hot? It was in the 100s when I was there.
Ran into a couple issues when I decided to push the limit and wear a tank and denim shorts outside of my hotel. I opted for a sundress the rest of the time I was there.
I never knew a human being could sweat as much as I did when I was there. Gee whiz…
The temperatures you describe are simply normal summer temperatures in Dubai. Sure, it’s hot, but it’s really the humidity that makes it especially uncomfortable. I guess the traditional loose clothing aid in air circulation?
Actually, people who live there all the time have bodies that are more adjusted to the heat. They still sweat, but not as much as you do.
Just like one of those residents coming here to Minnesota during January.
I had a friend who spent a few years in SE Asia. Then in one continuous journey, he flew home. Left Thailand in 111ºF, flew to Vietnam (still above 100º, then to Philippines (upper 90º’s) then to Hawaii (still 90º+), then southern California (90º+), and then on to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Due to mechanical problems, they had to wheel out one of those portable stairways for passengers to de-plane and walk across the taxiway to enter the terminal. It was an average windy January winter day in Minnesota: -11ºF. Despite being a native-Minnesotan, he claimed it took him a week to stop shivering.
What your body is accustomed to makes a lot of difference.
I have lived in south Arkansas alot of years. I have never acclimated. I am either too hot or too cold. Never just right. So IDK if living somewhere gets you used to it. And all that business about humidity doesn’t make a difference to me. Wind chills and heat indexes, meh! It’s a bunch of hooey, IMO.
Yeah! When I saw the thread title I was looking forward to some first-hand dirt on Dubai. What were the “issues” you ran into? Meet any interesting foreigners NOT from Dubai? How did your business itself go? As a Western woman (I assume) how were you treated?
