I’m still running W7, everything else seems normal, but today I noticed that the background/wallpaper changer isn’t changing. I’ve had it running, pointed at a directory called ‘Wallpaper’, with the options of all the pictures selected (about 2500 of them), ‘fit’ to screen, and change at the interval of every 30 minutes basically since I bought the computer, what, five years ago?
Today I happened to notice I had the same wallpaper after lunch that was on the screen when I first looked this morning. I right clicked on the screen, picked ‘show next wall paper’, and it changed to a new picture. Fine.
Except that a couple of hours later it still had the picture I had clicked over to around 1 p.m.
So I went in through Control Panel, and personalization, and background/wallpaper changer (or something like that) and looked at the settings. Everything as always. So I changed the interval setting to one minute, saved the change, and exited. And a minute late the screen changed, and a minute after that, and so on. Just what you’d expect.
So I went back into the program and changed the setting back to 30 minutes, saved and exited. The screen still hadn’t changed 90 minutes later.
Since then I’ve gone in and out of the program many times, changing the interval settings. One minute works, so does five seconds or 30 seconds. Five minutes DOESN’T work, nor does 15 minutes or 30. (Haven’t tried all the options.)
How can this be? How can the program ‘understand’ it’s supposed to change the wallpaper, select a picture from the right folder, and display it properly…so long as it gets to do it every minute or shorter intervals? And do nothing at all for intervals of 5 minutes or longer?
And all I’ve done is change that one setting, the interval. It utterly baffles me.
BTW, yes, my computer clock seems to be running fine, at least it displays the right date/time.
