Bacon or sausage(s)

Prompted by this:

Which do you prefer with (for) breakfast? Bacon, or sausage(s)?

For the purposes of this thread, bacon shall be defined as American-style rashers like these. Sausages shall be defined as skinless links, links with casings, and/or patties.

In general, bacon, but overall I prefer variety, so if both are available I’ll generally get a mix.

Sausages, but only links with casings.

Otherwise, bacon.

I’ve always preferred sausages, since I was a kid. Sausages seem like ‘more’.

But we consume more bacon in this house. It’s convenient to buy the 6-pound packages from Cash & Carry, and freeze at least half of it. (FWIW, I tend to cook four rashers each for our breakfasts.)

I grew up with Farmer John’s skinless link sausages. Sausages soak up more syrup than bacon does when you have pancakes. They’re also better for sopping up the egg yolks. I also like Jimmy Dean’s sausage. I used to slice the chub into discs, but nowadays I just tear some off and make patties. Farmer John’s, as I mentioned in another thread, are a California brand that is not generally available here, and the corner market miraculously has them. A taste of childhood! But I’m starting to decide they are too salty. I’l get some Jimmy Dean’s for variety. (And there’s no reason I can’t form them into ‘skinless links’.) I only eat links with casings if that’s what they have at a restaurant. I never cook them at home. Not that I dislike them, but they’re not what I grew up with.

Bacon. When it’s either ‘too crispy’ or ‘not crispy enough’, it beats badly-done sausage; when it’s perfect, it beats the best day sausage ever had.

Why does it have to be “or”? Why can’t it be “and”?

But, seriously, bacon wins for me, though it’s because I’m an utter junkie for bacon. I love good breakfast sausage, but it’s like me having to tell Kari Byron that, sorry, no, I won’t be able to sleep with her, because Stana Katic is already in my bed.

Because I’m not a Ford Focus. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bacon’s nice, but I’ve never been into this whole bacon fetish that seems to have gripped the internet. Given the choice, I’ll usually go for sausage. More satisfying, more filling, more tastier and spicy and yum.

Bacon. Wright’s, if you have it.

Spicy sausage is pretty good. If chorizo is included in your definition of sausage, I probably have it for breakfast more than bacon, since I’d rather have migas or a taco than an American-style breakfast. But if I’m ordering at a diner, I know I’ll probably like their bacon more than their sausage.

I prefer bacon, but I’m not in the habit of refusing pork products no matter what part of the pig they’re cut from.

Sausage would have been in the running, but we haven’t been able to find the Habanero links we used to be able to get from Farmer John lately. So bacon wins by a squeal.

It isn’t. This is an American-style poll.

Uh, kenobi already disproved that with the and/or question.

SAUSAGES!!! Bacon is way, way over-rated.

I don’t understand the love for bacon.
It’s okay but I could live without it.

Both, please.

Bacon is yummy and good. And who ever heard of an SLT? I don’t know if I’d like an SLAT. I can always go for a BLAT. Bacon on a burger? Of course! Breakfast sausages on a burger? Not so much. Bacon on a plate? Yes!

But with breakfast, I’d rather have sausage(s).

Bacon is a better bet. I’ve had breakfast sausages that were better than bacon, but it is a rarity.

I’d love to vote, but I can’t. If “both” had been an option I would have gone that way. But the variety of both meats is too wide to allow a definitive choice. The best link sausages beat the best bacon I’ve had, but I have had some weak sausages along the way.

Other breakfast meats, like baked ham, smoked ham, steak, boudin, and others I have had make the bacon/sausage choice meaningless to me.

I much prefer bacon. I love the taste of breakfast sausage, but I often end up finding a nasty little chunk of gristle in there somewhere and it just puts me off my food completely.
