Got me thinking that I must have walked through several high crime/large police presence several times while partying.
During the summer while staying at my friend’s place in Chicago for the weekend I ended up walking through whats left of Caprini Green several times. My friend lives in one of the re-developed area’s but at night it’s still can be a pretty rough place. I walked to the store down the road to get smokes at 3 in the morning alone, and completely pissed. I did it again recently when I was visiting but this time I had company.
During the festivals that are common in my part of Michigan I often walk by cops on the sidewalk whilst swilling from a stealth drink.
Anyone else do anything like this or do I just take incredibly stupid risks fairly often.?
I lived in Atlanta for a while without a car, and I used to walk through Cabbagetown and Reynoldstown all the time while fairly plastered. I also didn’t have a phone, so if I got a page (couldn’t afford a cell phone back then) that I wanted to return, I would have to go a few blocks over to the nearest pay phone. I was holding onto it one day, a little wobbly from having a few (dozen) when a guy came up to me to say that a guy around the corner was looking to mug me. I didn’t have anything on me worth taking, but you can bet I said, “so long!” and hightailed it back to my place.
In San Francisco, South of Market – just after being let out of a show at Slim’s where much alcohol was consumed. We were trying to get to the Mel’s Drive-In by the Metreon while stepping over the homeless on the sidewalks and squeezing past the hookers and dealers. I remember my friend holding my hand very tightly before we finally caught an OWL bus.
