Queen is replacing Freddie with Paul Rodgers. The guy from Free, Bad Company and The Firm.
And you know what’s worse? I’ll have to go.
I’ll have to.
It’s like that Cthulhu thing…I need it more than want it.
Someone hold me.

I think you’re going slightly mad.
Have you or anyone seen details of the tour yet?
I knew you’d surface here, buddy. You and I still have the need, don’t we?
No details except that it’ll be a tour. I’d assume of the US and Europe.
I saw them in 1982 on their last US tour. I was 15 and it’s still one of the greatest things in my life.
Are we going to hell, here?
I dunno…
It’s kinda hard for me to separate the quality of Bad Company’s vocals from the overall quality of their music. No joke, they did some shit. In fact, if they did anything good, it hasn’t survived on the radio.
On the other hand, this opens the possibility of a Queen/Blind Guardian tour, which would be fucking sweet.
On the other other hand (my third one, which is always down my pants), they could’ve got Hansi Kürsch to do vocals. That would’ve been even sweeter.
The should have stuck with George Michaels. He did a great job on the songs I heard.
The website (www.queenonline.com) says the tour will start in the Spring and will includes songs from Queen, Bad Company and Free.
I think I have the shakes.
Sure, I even caught “We Will Rock You” soon after it opened. And I enjoyed it too :smack:
Hasn’t played here yet. But I’d see it if I could.
It’s not like I’d have a choice.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
NO NO NO NO NO!!!
(I predict this thread will end up in the Pit. Especially if I post to it again.)
This is a travesty.
Coincidentally enough, I have A Day at the Races on right now. I cannot for the life of me imagine Paul Rogers singing Somebody to Love. Although he might do a creditable enough job on White Man
I haven’t heard anything by this Rodgers guy other than “All Right Now,” but ouch. Brian May is an excellent guitarist and a huge part of the Queen sound, and Taylor and Deacon are no slouches either. I’d be fine with it if they called the group something other than Queen, but come on, NOBODY can fill Mercury’s shoes. The man was the best male vocalist in rock, and in my opinion the best ever.
I do agree, however, that George Michael’s performance with the remaining members of Queen on “Somebody to Love” from the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert was quite good. I have the Elton John/Queen tracks from the same concert on my Queen greatest hits collection, but I’ve never felt masochistic enough to listen to them.
I believe that PR can handle the vocals, he has one of the great R&R voices, but the man has the stage presence of a clam. Freddie ruled the stage. I fear that this is, in fact, a need-for-cash (or maybe need-for-attention) choice and I am saddened.
It shoulda been George Michael or Robbie Williams.
I think I’d go with Bad Queen if I were them. Queen Company makes it sound like they might be a Pansy Division tribute band.
It can’t be a need for cash thing. Their still making royalties off the previous albums and last I heard (in a feature article in The Sun) the smallest fortune among the three of them was fifty million pounds.
Or, as Roger Taylor once said, “You’re in debt for forever but then suddenly your bank account looks like a phone number.”
Sounds like it could be fun.
Although personally, I would’ve preferred them to have picked a new name and gone with new material. Especially as John Deacon may not be part of this.
Indeed.
I caught a web chat with Roger Taylor a couple of years ago (2000, I think).
One of the questions was ‘What’s John up to these days?’
His answer (in total): ‘Not much’.
My guess is that John realized he had 50 million or more pounds and that was more than enough.
And I can’t say I blame him.
Heck, there’s a band bio thing on the old ‘Greatest Flix’ video where they give the band members birthdays and hobbies and such. One of the items is ‘Favorite Drink’. The others all say ‘Scotch’ or whatever alcoholic drink.
John’s said ‘Tea’.
