Bad sleeping position?

Every night, I go to sleep on my side, with my down pillow fluffed up to support my neck.

Every morning, I wake up on my back, with my arms raised over my head. It’s been this way for months now.

So I have two questions:

  1. All my life, I’ve never been comfortable sleeping on my back. Why start now? and

  2. Is sleeping with my arms raised compressing the veins in my neck?

Has anything changed in your life: amount of stress, food (diet), noise/ light level in the sleeping room, bed position, mattress, time you go to sleep, different meds. that influence sleeping?

On average, a person turns around 30 times during his/her sleep cycle, so the position you wake up in can be coincidental.

There could be confirmation bias at work - you don’t actually wake up with arms raised every morning, just often enough that you wonder and register it wrongly.

Do you feel that this position negativly impacts your sleep during the night - you have trouble sleeping, or you sleep so deep/ long that you don’t hear the alarm clock? Do you feel groggy and tired during the day?

The general advice for sleep problems is a special sleep lab with EEG monitors and cameras.

About the veins, I’m waiting for the doctor dopers to come in.
