I think we are going to unprecedented scrutiny of McCain’s and Obama’s pick for Treasury Secretary. In fact, I want to see them name their picks well before the election, and it better not be some Wall Street insider. I’d also like to see a prohibition of anyone working for the Treasury Dept to go into the private banking sector for X number of years after leaving that dept. I don’t know what X needs to be, but something long enough so that we don’t have some revolving door shuttling Wall Street insiders into and out of Treasury.

Add regulators to that list. They take jobs in the industry they regulate frequently. It has proven to be a form of delayed bribe.

So do lots of people. When the President asks you to serve, you usually take it pretty seriously, especially if he gets medieval on your ass. I’ve seen the pictures of Obama looming over other Senators. He knows how to get medieval without so much as raising his voice.

My thread title is perfectly accurate. A deal was made without McCain’s help. That is a fact. Why should I change it? If you build a house and I blow it up with dynamite, that doesn’t mean you didn’t build a house.

If a house gets burned down, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t house. Both sides said they had an agreement. An agreement by both sides is by definition a “deal.”
