Yup, our beloved pastry maker Baker pulled through with flying colors. Two hours under the knife and she’s one kidney lighter.
She had the operation performed on Thursday and I went to visit on Friday. The effects of the anesthesia or painkillers were still wearing off and her stomach decided it was time to show of it’s gymnastics skills. Cool glow-in-the-dark stuff came out that would’ve made Linda Blair proud. She wasn’t done with her intestinal yoga so I left some books and a puzzle book and wished her well.
I visited again today (Saturday) and we had a nice long chat. We talked about books and movies and current threads on the SDMB. She was most disheartened to find out that Cecil had been captured by Nazi groundhogs, but I assured her that the Doper Alliance was hot on their trail and close to discovering their lair (sshhhh! I know I embellished a little but play along, okay?) She was able to keep down some food yesterday and had a decent appetite today. She has several vases of flowers and wants to thank everyone here for thinking of her during this time.
Baker may be home as early as tomorrow but it may not be until Monday. Her little fingers were just a-quiverin’ from SDMB withdrawl. I thought I might bring a laptop so she could post live from her recovery room today but I forgot it at work. If I see her tomorrow I’ll try again. At the latest she will be able to post again on Tuesday.
So let’s all wish her a speedy recovery and keep this on the front page until she gets back and can post her experiences fighting off zombie doctors and vampire nurses.
I just talked to her on the phone. She’s getting ready to leave the hospital! She’ll be spending the night with the butcher and the candlestick maker (mom and dad) and then returning to her house on Tuesday.
iampunha, she also said that while her stomach is feeling alright now, the stitches make it hurt to laugh. So watch it with those zingers. But feel free to get nekkid anyway; you might want to just saunter rather than run though.
Many, many thanks to those who have wished me well. I told Horseflesh that when I was feeling sorry for myself I just had to turn my head and see all the flowers and cards people had sent, then I felt better. It was also cool to see a real Doper(that’s you, Horseflesh), thanks so much for being there.
The painkillers and antibiotics and such are supposed to “cure” you, but the smiles and (painful)laughs I got from Doper comments are better. But don’t ask to borrow my Percocet, it’s all mine I tells ya! Tommorrow, Wednesday, I go to get my staples out.
In spite of the pain I feel blessed. I have friends and relatives to take care of me. My parents are saints, doing whatever is needed. My elderly grandmother told me she is praying constantly for me. Life doesn’t get any better.
Do you know what bliss is? It’s getting to your folks’ house, removing your clothes and being helped into a warm shower. Then you shampoo and rinse, your mother dries your back and hair. Then you put on fresh, clean clothes and sink back into a big comfy chair while Mom brings you saltine crackers and broth. Crackers and turkey broth can be gourmet fare, I’ll have you know, with red Jello for dessert. BTW, Horseflesh, it was the lemon and lime Jello that helped along my Linda Blair impression.
I can hardly wait to get back into the SDMB loop. Anyone got any recommendations for fun threads I missed in the last six days? And my hands have stopped shaking from the SDMB withdrawal.
Thanks to my Secret Santa giver, but I’m stocked for now. I have chocolate, although that big bag of M&M’s you sent is no longer with us. I have the book in a “to read” stack, and am looking forward to it, as I peeked a couple of weeks back.
Zabali, I live on the second floor of a house, so returning home yesterday was a challenge. And I have the staples removed from the incision later today, so I have to do it over again. But after that I may not be out of here for a week.
lieu, I told Horseflesh I hoped you had a new “poop” thread started soon. While it would hurt to laugh, the old saw about “laughter is the best medicine” is not all that far off.
Aries28, did you get the Book Fairy thing worked out?
