Early Monday morning I will be going into the hospital for kidney surgery, and I’m feeling kind of blue about it. I’m mildly nervous about anesthesia, and I don’t relish three to four days of having an IV stuck in my hand, with a tube coming out of my back. I hesitated to ask, but decided I needed the sympathy. If you have a good wish or a prayer to spare, I need it. Sorry to make this sound like a “poor me” whine, but I guess that’s what it is. I’ll be home Thursday at the latest, thank God.
my dad has been through kidney ordeals (mostly lithotripsies) many times, so I understand and sympathize. Good luck, heal quickly, and go home soon!

Good luck and best wishes, Baker. I hope you have lots of kind nurses waiting on you hand and foot, and many loving visitors.
Get well soon, Baker.
I feel for ya.
Hope everything goes well.
Cheer up, Baker! Look at the bright side. After surgery, you’ll be better, right? So, focus on the benefits. BTW, there’s nothing wrong with being blue or nervous. Best wishes!
Let us all know how it turned out, ok?
I will hold you in my heart, and my prayers are with you, Baker.
Anesthesia IS scary, and the rest…although probably not scary, is a pain in the neck. (Or somewhere else) And certainly this isn’t going to be fun. But I will be praying for you…that you have all the help you need and that the Doctors use wisdom and most of all that the outcome is what you need it to be.
My Love,
Cheri
Hey, don’t knock the IV going into the back of your hand. They’ll put lots of nice little cocktails in there to make you feel muuuuuuch better (and even if you don’t feel better, you won’t give two-hoots anyway… )
Good luck Baker and be nice to the nurses.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers Baker.
Surgery is scary, but as long as they fix whatever is wrong it will be worth it.
Check in with us as soon as you can.
My good thoughts and prayers are with you, Baker. Hope there’s some hunky intern named “Antonio” with an adorable accent who will tend to your every whim!
Aye, what kambuckta said.
Getting the I.V. itself is (generally, at least) the only painful sticky part of the whole deal, nowadays. Any further meds you need go into a shunt in the tube, instead of, say, your left glute.
You’ve perhaps heard the old saw about being asked to count backwards from 100 (or 10, depending on the age of the story teller)? Forget it.
If you can count backwards from 2, after they hit you with the sodium pentathol (or some derivative/alternative of same) you’re in fairly rarified company. By the time you think to worry about it, you’re waking up in the recovery room. No sweat.
Good luck, all the same, and our best to ya. Surgery sucks, no matter how you cut it (ha, I kill me, no really), but you’ll pull through.
Good luck with everything before surgery!
Now during surgery, well, that’s a different matter altogeth…
Hey, good luck! I sent a quick prayer upstairs for you, although I’m sure it probably wasn’t necessary . . . you’ll be fine. Hope you have a quick recovery.
Ask questions. Ask all kinds of questions. About meds, procedures, whatever. First of all it makes us (health-care pros) feel good when you ask, and secondly, it helps your peace of mind in the process.
Ich wünsche schnelle und gute Besserung! (I wish you a quick and successful recovery.)

Hang in there and get well soon, Baker.

Remember to ask for the regular morphine shot, rather than the self-administered pushbutton thingie (you get way more that way)!
Seriously, good luck.
Best of luck to you.
