Austin Mini. A bare-bones car, but it was a car that was affordable for nearly everyone, and almost impossible to break.
(First car I ever drove was a 1968 Austin Mini Cooper. I was unfamiliar with a stick transmission, but that little car forgave my grinding the gears, and just kept going. I learned how to drive a stick on that car.)
