@Elendil_s_Heir my younger brother and my kids loved hearing “The Elephant’s Child”! They preferred my reading to the Jack Nicholson video that someone gave us

gkster, my dad read “The Elephant’s Child” to my sisters and me, too. Good stuff. And a few years ago I had the chance to visit and spend a weekend in the house where Kipling wrote it: Naulakha (Rudyard Kipling House) - Wikipedia

@Elendil_s_Heir how did you like Naulakha? I remember looking at the website years ago and it’s only 4 1/2 hours from us, but somehow we rarely go to Vermont; the last time we stayed there was 2018, and before that, 2005
I enjoyed my weekend stay there with some high school buddies very much. It’s been well-restored and is in a beautiful hilly, wooded area. Each of us read a favorite bit of Kipling aloud one night. My friend Gary read an excerpt from Captains Courageous, which he’d loved since he was a kid, and then was amazed and pleased to learn that Kipling had written the book under that very roof.
Just curious … is #8 (Bike Around the Bay) an actual competitive race or a multi-day recreational tour, similar to the cross-state rides like RAGBRAI and others of that ilk?
-“BB”-
Well I sure thought it was a race! Turns out it’s like a walk-a-thon on bicycles (bike-a-thon?). It is the only bike race thingy I am familiar with, as it goes through my neck of the woods every year.
