They were faced with a difficult situation. The show’s ratings had been low and it was unlikely it would be renewed for a second season. At that point, the writers could have just stopped caring and written some hack ending. But they came up up with a good final episode that offered closure to the series but at the same time left opportunities to reopen the stories if the show had been renewed. I thought it showed dedication that they made this kind of effort for a show they knew was a dead end.

The promo NBC ran said “All your questions will be answered” in the series finale. Well, 1) I had dozens more questions about the characters, and 2) Sam never got home.
