Beg to differ. France may have been the fifth, after the UK and Canada. From Wikipedia:
Alouette 1 is a deactivated Canadian satellite that studied the ionosphere. Launched in 1962, it was Canada’s first satellite, and the first satellite constructed by a country other than the Soviet Union or the United States. Canada was the fourth country to operate a satellite, as the British Ariel 1, constructed in the United States by NASA, preceded Alouette 1 by five months.

One of the first schools I attended was this one, https://www.greengates.edu.mx/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1032801&type=d&pREC_ID=1335803 where we were taught “God Save the Queen” and “The Star Spangled Banner” as well, and had to sing all 3 at assembly
