Two episodes have already aired, and I like it. The show stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a former pro football player who’s now a financial advisor to current players. Some of his clients have messier personal/financial lives than others. Rob Corddry is funny/annoying as Johnson’s pushy boss; Dule Hill (Psych, The West Wing) is a laid-back Miami Dolphins exec. Good Southern Florida scenery, livin’ large lifestyle stuff (pretty girls, fast cars, big parties, swanky restaurants, etc.), but not all that much football yet.
It’s not bad; but it’s not great yet either. I WANT to like it. I’m hoping it will grow on me. I’ll watch anything that has Peter Berg associated with it. (The Last Seduction is still one of my favorite movies of all time)
I recently discovered Ballers. Been watching all 20 episodes on HBO on demand. Kind of nice to watch 2 or 3 episodes, maybe go back and catch a bit that I missed.
Dwayne Johnson is becoming a good actor, well suited for this show.
Some of the other characters are hilarious, Joe, Dwayne partner, and Richie, who can’t decide on which team or how many millions he should accept.
Overall, a very entertaining show.
What I find surprising, or puzzling, are that just about every player in this show is black, and pretty well every woman, those that are backgrounders, dancers, getting banged etc, are all white.
What’s with that? Real life in Miami, or just the writers’ imagination?
