Ban the Democratic Party?

I was browsing the news and caught a glimpse of a story saying the Senate was debating a resolution banning the Democratic Party, because of its historical ties to slavery. The party was deeply involved with the KKK, too. If we’re banning names and symbols that might trigger oppressed minorities…

It’s absolutely, totally evil…but damn, it’s clever in a Swiftian kind of way. It can’t pass, but it doesn’t need to. The sheer audacity of the ploy is stunning.

In the same way that the Nazis had, like, the really coolest uniforms, so, now, the Republicans have the sharpest satire of the day.

I’m calling shenanigans. There’s no way that Louie Gohmert said “Democratic Party” instead of “Democrat Party”

Grin! Good point! I’m now wondering if it happened at all, or I got spoofed by a satirical news story. Haven’t seen any other references or follow-ups.

Here is a link to the story:

It’s obviously a troll ploy. That being said, it’s technically in line with the reasoning some people use these days - “even if you have repented and done a 180-degree turn, it’s not good enough.” (I.e., the Boeing executive)

I agree with this proposal. Of course we have to ban the Republican party too for all their associations. It would be better to ban them both for Racketeering, Infuence Peddling, and Corruption, but as long as the job gets done the details aren’t that important.

Oh, I see that Gohmert is a real logical thinker. I can’t wait until he follows the logic another step or two and then proposes that we ban white guys. Fuckin’ idiot. Imagine the Republican party without white guys.

I support this 100%.

America should take another page from Canada and rename their parties more in line with their political ideologies. Dems should become the Liberal Party. GOP, the Conservative party. Libertarians can sod off with the NDP. Nobody understand what they’re for anyway.

It’s going to blow up in Gohmert’s face if he starts a conversation about which political party has a better record on racial issues. Because the answer is going to be the Democrats had a much worse record on racial issues up until around 1970 and the Republicans have had a much worse record on racial issues since around 1970. The result will be the people who care about racial issues will strengthen their ties with the Democratic Party. The people who don’t care about racial issues will be confused because they don’t understand satire or irony and then they’ll get angry because they don’t like being confused.

I was thinking both the Democrats and Republicans could implode leaving us and the Greens to duke it out.

And you don’t understand what they’re for because you tilt at strawmen anyway.

Conservative party

I don’t see a lot of difference; what am I missing-?

One could make an argument that the Democratic Party should change their name due to the ties of that name to slavery. I don’t think anyone would take that seriously but it’s not completely intellectually dishonest while living in these days where everything offends and we are all so worried about little hurt feelings.

i left this one out by mistake

Your definition of Conservative party didn’t explain at all why it’s almost entirely a bunch of white guys.

I wish it was just satire (I know that you are being sarcastic there, but the Republicans are serious), one gets the feeling that their Henry II like request of constantly asking if someone should get rid of the meddlesome opponent is falling on the ears of many willing to do it.
