Bank of America fascists

Sure you can. Some folks have a dislike potty words showing up on the main page, and I’m trying to appease the motherfuckers’ sensibilities.

If you’re from Nantucket it’s legendary.

Unwillingly having a mortgage through them (they bought Taylor, Bean and Whittaker), these types of stories make me worry!

LilyoftheField:

What exactly has BOA done?

They loaned you money, you lost your job and now may not be able to make the loan payments. What do they have to do with what happened?

Nothing, of course. She isn’t complaining about that. She was trying to be responsible and work something out which according to their webpage there is a mechanism to do that. When she tried to do it, they blew her off.

Chefguy:

“when you change your account, it’s your responsibility to make sure that you link to a bank account.”

Well there it is. It is your responsibility. You didn’t do, what only you could do, and now it is somebody else’s fault.

I can kinda see your quibble with LilyoftheField, tbook, but did you read Chefguy’s op?

Well, we don’t know how Chefguy’s payment is set up. If it is from his bank (credit union) to the credit card, then the bank (credit union) has no way to know that the account number changed, and, yes, he should have fixed that. If it’s the credit card making a regularly scheduled withdrawal from his bank (credit union) account, then, yes, the credit card company should have transferred the existing account information to the new account number.

Actually, that’s incorrect.

However awful fascism might be as a system of government and power, racial extermination is not a necessary component of fascism.

Whose responsibility is it when someone else changes it?

Which is about the nicest thing you can say about fascism. Or BOA, now I think about it.

I hate BofA too. I owe them some money. I could’ve easily declared bankruptcy and stuck them (before the laws changed), but I decided to do the right thing and try to pay off my debt. Then I find out about all their scams and getting bailouts, etc. What really roasted my chestnuts was when they tried to charge me extra for *taking a payment *by phone. Wait, you want to penalize me for paying you?!!!

Sheesh I wish I’d dicked them over when I had the chance…

Bri2k

Well, they do make the trains run on time!

Horseshit. Are you trying to tell me that:

a. BOA doesn’t have that bank information in their system and can’t automatically link to it with the new account number? We’ve had a card with them for 12 fucking years and never had this problem when security issues have happened in the past.

  1. That BOA has no responsibility (in case (a) isn’t possible) to tell the customer that this needs to be done and that it’s okay to just automatically allow a hit to peoples’ credit reports?

Fuck that. They’re wrong, and you’re an idiot.

I can see the whole self-reliance aspect of this, its a virtue I heartily endorse for others.

But the Bank puts out sign says “Bank”. What you got there is one of your implied warrantys. Bank says I’m good at this shit, I can do the maths, even compounded interest and stuff. And when they offer a new product, you have right to expect they’ve thought it through, they got roomfuls of smart people drinking coffee and thinking up how things could go wrong. And fixing them.

No way this should be a problem with Chefguy, he has every right to expect to be able to trust, he should be able to rely on them to think it through.

They do this shit for the same reason a dog licks his balls by the fireplace: because he can. They nip some working class schmuck for fifty bucks, what’s he gonna do? Take on Bank of America, with 1100 lawyers and 6 hitmen?

Unleash Elizabeth Warren. Clone her, and unleash them all!

They aren’t facist. See Hanlon’s Razor: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. How do I know? They screw up in ways that cost them money.

Many, many years ago I worked for them. I found a better job, so I quit. My last paycheck was little higher than I expected, but I figured it was vacation I’d forgotten about or something. Then two weeks later I get another full paycheck. BoA has a centralized HR system, so I call the toll free number. I tell them I just need to verify my end date – I’m applying for a mortgage, you see, and I want to make sure my info will check out when the mortgage company verifies it. (Which happened to be true.)

The rep tells me I’m still showing as employed. She says “You’ll need to call your old boss and have him fill out a separation form. Have him fax it to the number at the top.” I tell her, “I don’t mean to be rude, but I don’t work there anymore. It would be a huge hassle for me to try and track this guy down. since you are HR, can you take care of this?” She tells me, “That’s not really our job.” I ask, “So, if I don’t call him and have him fax you the paperwork, you will still have me listed as an active employee?” She tells me this is correct. I say, “Thank you very much” and hang up the phone.

My job had been clerical in nature. I knew the separation paperwork had been faxed in – I had done it myself. I had even taken a copy of the paperwork and the fax confirmation in my files when I left.

The little HR twit royally pissed me off, so I called up my replacement at the bank and told her about the conversation. I told her exactly where in the files to find my separation paperwork and the fax confirmation sheet. Then I offered to fax her the copy I had so she didn’t have to go find it. She gratefully took me up on it, so I now had fax confirmations that the paperwork had gone to HR and to my replacement.

They paid me for two more months.

My old boss finally called me up and said his boss saw my name on a payroll report. He asked if I had been paid for the past two months. I told him yes. He asked for the money back. I told him no problem, we hadn’t touched the money. I did say that BoA had reported that money to the IRS as income for me, so I needed something in writing from the bank saying what they would do when I was audited. Then I’d be happy to send the money back.

I never heard from him again.

The real kicker? My paycheck was direct deposited into a BoA account. The remittance advice was sent to my department via interoffice mail the entire two months. And I checked recently – my checking account is still listed as an employee account.

I don’t know, the late fees may have been forgivable if they at least gave you a blow job.

Definitely not the corporation. In 21st century America, corporates are blameless, holy creatures, and they don’t have time for you corn-shucking crackers.

Great story Mom-of-Andrew.
