I was wondering this as I was getting my hair cut today. I like to think I’m being considerate by moving my head, usualy tilting it from side to side as the person that cuts my hair moves from one side to the other. I figure it’s saving some time and trouble for them. I wonder if I’m actually impeding or helping in a very minimal fashion. So, for the Dopers that cut hair, would you rather the cuttee move their head or you tell them to do it/move it for them?
Also, the hair gel rap I have seems to be leaving a lot of debris in my hair. I didn’t take his suggestion for what I should have, so I figured I’d ask you, oh wise Dopers.
Thanks in advance!
I’m not a licensed professional, but I have cut my husband’s hair for many years. I prefer to direct the head-moving by nudging his head with my hands, rather than have him try to guess what I want him to do. This is pretty much my only opportunity to push my husband around, so I make the most of it.
Regarding the hair gel, you might try one of the L’Oréal Studio Line FX products. They don’t leave residue, and they don’t make your hair feel as if it has been coated in shellac.
I used that stuff for a while until Target was restocking and didn’t have it on their shelves. I got some other stuff. I may have to go back.
If it’s anything like when you’re at the dentists, and your mouth is wide open with the dentist poking around… and you move your tongue to where you think it’s out of the way? Then yes, I have tried to be helpful at the hairdressers too. Often they’ll just nudge my head to where they want it to be, and say “don’t move!”
