hehehe
lol
I did a similar thing with Scour Exchang. For those who dont know, Scour exchange is a program that is like Napster but you can share video and images as well. I have downloaded about 4 major hollywood movies while they were still in theaters:D. Well, one night I was bored so I made a bunch of bitmaps with very suggestive filenames. About 20 people downloaded one. They were really just text that said “ha ha pervert!!”
So do you troll on the SD board too?
Geeze, it was just a little joke. The files took less than 10 seconds to transfer.
Oh man, the perfect solution to the napster problem (if you can call it that). Methinks I have a new sig!
I’m still chuckling about it.
It’s good to see that not all bands and musicians are railing against the internet. Many have realised that it will be impossible to fight mp3 distribution. Some, like The Offspring, have openly supported it. Others like TMBG are trying to work within it.
The BNL case is slightly different but still supportive. As they said, it’ll end up on Napster (or equivalents) anyway. True fans will buy the new album anyway. Part-time fans and the curious who were looking to hear it still get a sample so they’re happy too. The only ones who will be upset are those looking to rort the system completely and even they will only be inconvenienced if they have perserverance.
In fact a number of fans will be searching on Napster just so they can collect as many of the fake messages as possible and will be disappointed if they get the real song ‘oh crap… it’s the song… search again and download it from somewhere else… I want to hear a fake’."
I’m sure someone is already collecting them all and is trying for the complete set…
Just last weekend I bought “Rock Spectacle” and “Maroon,” bringing my total # of CD’s to 5 (of theirs, anyway). And I bought “Gordon” and “Maybe You Should Drive” after downloading some tracks from Napster. When I first saw this I thought maybe they were gonna lose an opprotunity since I thought they were following in the footsteps of Metallica, but this actually looks like it could work for the band, since they’re making the most of the closest to legitimate use for Napster - previewing the songs before buying the album.
That was a funny and an innovative way, I’d admit, for the group BNL to beat the bootleggers to the punch. And I’m one of Napster’s biggest supporters. If it was a well-done commercial mp3 file, and it helps to sell records, more power to them. This shows one thing: Napster and the like will stay. Very few software have become household words so quickly.
These ‘fake’ mp3 files are not to be dismissed lightly; it is rare to hear the artists talk openly to each other in the studio while making recordings, unless it was a pre-arranged script, or shouting instructions.
Napster and Napster-type sites can be used by artists to share their works-in-progress, as opposed to the polished studio version they might not want to freely distribute. Now these recorded outtakes won’t be wasted anymore.
I’ve been doing this since day one with napster. Only, instead of recording my own MP3s, I tend to rename ones I have. Hence Beers Steers and Queers by the Revolting Cocks might end up as Hit Me by Britney Spears. Or say Mother by Danzig could be Larger Than Life by the 98 Backsync Boys.
I’m thinking of renaming the song Western Union into the Billboard top 40 every week, but I have no idea how to reach the Five Americans for permission.
That’s quintessential BNL for you.
It’s not like the Trojan ones are easily confused with the non-Trojan ones. I downloaded the clearly-named “Pinch Me (Without Steve and Tyler).mp3” as well as “Pinch Me (With Steve and Tyler).mp3”.
dpr, if I had a decent connection, I’d be one such fan.
SanibelMan: Pick up the Shoebox EP; the song “Trust Me” is one of my favorites.
You can borrow my connection anytime Audrey. Of course you’d have to come down here for that, but us fans have to stick together.
Indeed!
Hey Audrey, I never got to thank you for the kind words in the Most Romantic thread.
Thank you for the kind words (grumble even if you DID callme a softie)
I call 'em as I see 'em!
You’re so very welcome, dpr.
