Barry Bonds: Roto keeper or not?

I’m trying to prepare for my National League Roto League season and I’m asking for advice from all the baseball savvy Dopers. I play in a keeper league and had Bonds last season. Our league uses a “snake draft” and not an auction, and I have Bonds saved at a 7th round pick. I’m leaning toward cutting him based on his injury history, advancing age, risk as a fielder, and steriod related issues, but so far this Grapefruit League he is 7 for 9 with 7 HRs. Do you think I should keep him or not?

Barring indictment or the discovery of a smoking syringe, they can’t suspend him, so he’ll play. I have my doubts about how healthy and productive he can be (see Anderson, Brady, Sosa, Sammy, Millar, Kevin and Boone, Bret) especially because they can’t protect him as a DH.

I wouldn’t depend on him as a primary source of HRs, RBIs or slugging %.

How big is the league? Who else do you have as a keeper option?

I wouldn’t draft him if it cost much or represented a high pick. He is still a phenomenal hitter but any 43-year-old ballplayer is perpetually one pulled hamstring away from the end of his career.

i echo everything that has been said so far. what are your other possible keepers and how many can you have?
