He’d undergone an MRI after dealing with a stubborn case of bronchitis, and this was found on the scan. It sounds like he just wants to do surgery with no radiation or chemo as of now; this was what my dad did when the same thing happened almost 3 years ago. I sure hope Mr. Manilow doesn’t die from something else 8 months later, like Dad did.
Lotta flavors of lung cancer. With widely varying expectations.
Once someone has a cancer diagnosis that tends to concentrate the mind. As your father demonstrated, that’s often a mistake.
I’m sorry you both went through all that.
Manilow is rich, in decent general condition, and rich. Those are the three most important factors leaning towards a favorable outcome.
If he’s taking advice from real oncologists and they’re saying rad and chemo are opttional that’s very favorable news. If he’s listening to quacks or in denial? Not such good news.
That sucks. I met him briefly when I was painting a set for a new musical (Harmony) he had written. Very nice guy.
That backdrop is still a favorite of mine for creativity by the paint team. How to make a giant size newsprint style photos? Spray paint through cane chair mesh, made the dots work.
Actually, because Dad was 89 at the time of diagnosis, and there was no evidence that it had spread, everyone agreed that this was the right thing to do. He had a pretty rough recovery, not unexpected at his age, and enjoyed good health for the next few months.
My favorite Barry Manilow memory: In the fall of 1995, I attended two R.E.M./Radiohead concerts on two consecutive nights at an amphitheater in suburban St. Louis. I stayed at a nearby hotel and took advantage of the shuttle van, and while returning from the second show, the station the driver had on started playing “Copacabana,” and we ALL started singing along. Upon arrival at the hotel, we all wanted to stay aboard until the song was over, but the driver said we had to get out so he could pick up the next load. Too funny!
And there’s this. SFW, and it looks and sounds like it was taken off a VHS tape that had been copied several times. It was ca. 1989.
