Barry Sears "The Zone" diet

Since I almost always eat out (I can’t get home to eat), I’ve been gaining some weight lately. And I am most probably not eating well, anyhow.

So, recently, I became aware of a little place near work that offers to cook you your meals in a balanced way. And, additionally, they sent me information about the Barry Sears’ “The Zone” diet.

My question would be: Do any dopers out there know whether this is a healthy diet?

Sorry that I can’t answer your question - but if you don’t get good answers here - or if you just want to see if anyone is on it, hop on over to: SDMB Weightloss club and ask the guys there.

Didn’t seem to hurt Dr. Atkins any.

People have has sucess with it, others not. My way of determing if a diet will work is:
1 - Look at the mantance part - you knwo the new eating patterns you will have for life once you reach your desired weight and ask yourself if you could live on that.
2 - Consider getting your blood work done after you start. With Atkins in particular, some people’s blood work went way out, then for others after starting their blood work was the best in their life. The zone is a lot more moderate, so I don’t expect much, but worth looking into. Also don’t test it too soon, as some diets do have a adjustment period, perhaps the 3 month mark would be a good time to test.

Good luck

I went to zonediet.com and looked over the materials there and they have a solid plan. Nothing new or revolutionary, to be sure. Using glycemic index to choose foods has been the norm in serious sports nutrition for a few years now and it is finally starting to trickle down into consumer dieting plans. If you puy any effort into it, you can find similar meal plans and diet info for free, or you can take the no-brainer approach and pay them to do it for you. Whatever floats your boat.
