I get to help around a bit with some bartending at a friends party tonight and I was just wondering if anyone have some mixes that you can make without having to go out and buy <insert weird tropical fruit>.
If you have rum and orange and pineapple juice, the world is yours.

blue tequila 1 oz. 1 1/2oz shaphire gin with 1 oz sprite. mix with ice and shake with twits of limon and lime

My new favorite: mojito. A sort of Cuban mint julep. Mash some mint on the inside of the glass, add some lime juice, simple syrup, an ounce or two of light rum, ice, and fill with club soda. (You can substitute limeade for the lime and simple syrup, if you want.) Yum!
Flavored rums and vodkas are excellent for parties, b/c they’re already flavored and you can thus skip some of the Weird Bar Mixes and still get a great tasting drink.
Vanilla vodka with Coke or ginger ale is a very simple, smooth drink. (And you can make “ghetto ginger ale” by using mostly Sprite and then adding just a splash of Coke. Most people can’t tell. This is also handy for any liquor that’s good with ginger ale, like bourbon or rum.) You could also use regular vodka/rum with Vanilla Coke.
They make flavored vodka and rum in Orange, Coconut, Apple, Raspberry, Citrus, Vanilla, Pepper, Strawberry, Coffee, etc…you see the possibilities here. 
If you have the basics like cranberry, OJ, and pineapple, with some Coke and Sprite, you can make just about any liquor taste good. Vodka and light rum mix well with just about anything, particularly juices; for bourbon, Coke and Sprite work well, and for tequila…well, that’s for shots, isn’t it? (Most home bars don’t have the stuff to make a good margarita, but if you mix tequila with Limeade and a splash of OJ, it’s surprisingly tasty.)
A cheap way to make cool mixers is to go to your grocery store’s frozen juice section and pick up some fruit punch, some tangerine/orange, some Limeade…whatever flavors you like…and just use that for your mixers. Just be careful with your liquor-to-alcohol ratio, because they’ll be so sweet most people won’t be able to tell how much they’re drinking. (And if guests wrap their car around a tree after getting drunk at your place, you’re just as liable as a bar.)
Gin doesn’t mix very well in general, so don’t worry about that. Either you like gin, or you don’t; most people who do will be fine with tonic or soda.
If you can tell me what mixers you do have, and what liquors, I could be more specific with suggestions. 
I had a drink idea this evening. I was going to get some Bass Ale (it IS a holiday and all…) But they had just sold the last case. Guess I’ll just have to settle for these Beck’s Darks! MMMMMMMMM!!!
Sorry, I’m not much on mixed drinks, I prefer beer.
3 or 4 juices, a selection of sodas and a bunch of sliced citrus fruits should be fine. Instead of a lot of pre-made mixes that only make one drink, grab some generic sweet and sour mix maybe?
My current favorite is a Redheaded Slut: jaegermeister, peach schnapps and cranberry juice. As a shooter it’s 1 oz of each, for a drink adust the juice up and add ice.
I find that Martini bianco and orange juice make a very nice long drink. Take a tall glass, 2 fingers martini, a few ice cubes, fill up with orange juice. Been drinking that all summer…
at a party this weekend, my friend made me this awesome drink with a Danzka’s grapefruit flavored vodka and a clear soda (don’t know which, they taste the same to me). I’m on a hunt for a bottle of that vodka for my very own. Anyone picked one up before?
You can always do the three layered gummie worm.
Get glass with ice. Shot of Vodka, 2 Shots of Green Apple Pucker, fill glass most of the way with Five Alive then top of with a splash of Cranberry Juice.
If you pour properly, you can get 3 distinct layers - green, yellow and red. All your friends will think you’re the coolest. They will also get completely crushed as it tastes exactly like a sour gummie worm when it’s mixed.
Another one I made by accident and don’t know exactly how it works, but I can give you what I think I did.
Shot of Tarantula Blue Tequila, 2 shots of Coconut Rum, fill glass with Mango/Banana the rest of the way.
Somehow, this tastes exactly like Jelly Belly Buttered Popcorn jelly beans. I can’t even begin to guess WHY it does. I also am guessing there may be another juice I used in conjunction with the Mango/Banana twist, I just don’t remember.
The best mixers I’ve found are cranberry juice and five alive. Most alcohols can go with them.
